Only recovery gear not what tools you carry - i've got quite a few of those.

I have in/on my truck every time I go wheeling:

12'x3/8" logging chain, cable puller "come along", spade shovel, 3 shackles, 30'x3" bulldog winch extension strap, 29'x3" ARB snatch strap, 9' ARB tree saver, smittybilt 10k waterproof winch, rope splicing FID, jump/power box and an air compressor.

    :crapstorm:

What's the difference between a winch extension strap and a snatch strap? Why can't you use a snatch strap for both purposes?

    A thing or two...
A snatch strap has an amount of stretch to it. It is designed to yank someone out by getting a running start.

Winch extensions and tow straps don't have that stretch in them, and they aren't designed to take the kind of shock loading that a snatch strap is. They should be tensioned by slowly taking up the slack.

Winch extension is polyester like a seatbelt snatch is nylon.

I saw the value of a winch last november and within 3 months had one.
I took some buddies to some family marshland and one guy with a yj broke the ujoint on his front drive shaft and went 2wd. He got stuck as f and fried his winch solenoid trying to get out. Another buddy had an xj on 35 stt pros with a winch and went in to get the jeep out. At this time i only had duratracs and no winch so i was useless.
We managed to get the yj turned around and facimg the right direction. We tried snatch strap pulls but it was too heavy only having 2wd so we used my truck on dry land as an anchor after we ran out of trees. We had the xj towing the yj winching off my truck.

Had we only had that one winch, we'd have been in trouble. So after that experience i got mud tires and a winch!

And the winched saved my ass this winter after having it only a month! I was on some trails trying to make a turn and dug down to ice and was stuck.

Have you ever used the come along? I havent used mine yet.
Ive used my hilift more with lifting fallen trees than my truck, funny eh?
    Thanks for sharing man!

A strap, army surplus folding shovel, front and rear receiver tow hooks. Oh, and the wisdom not to get into situations where I need to use that stuff....LOL

So what exactly is the difference between a ‘recovery’ strap and a ‘snatch’ strap?? I know snatch straps are for yanking & building kenitic energy.. i have a tow strap. Just been looking for a snatch strap and i see a lot of ‘recovery’ straps
