Hi guys. New here to the postings although I’ve spent hours reading and trying to find answers to my pending issue. So without further hesitation here goes......

2001 3.4 Taco 230@@@ miles. I have slowly made my way through this truck from the maitenance stand point. New fuel pump fresh filter new plugs new wires and now the pending issues with the fuel pressure regulator.

My Haynes manual says that the fuel pressure should hold around 21 psi.

I’ve seen some conflicting info in some of these blogs so my question is this......

No fuel pressure with engine off. At idle it will do around 46 psi on the gauge. It will fluctuate as indicated with the vacuum pulled with a vacuum gun. This unit has the atmospheric style hose on the air tube. No real vacuum.
The regulator seems to be flowing a bit on the high side of the pressure range by what I have read. But that isn’t the issue that bothers me..... where my issue lies is here..... as soon as the engine is cut off the pressure does off to zero almost instantly.

I’ve put 2 bwd regulators on in the last week or so and they both function just as the old regulator that I thought was defective.
If the fuel return line is clamped off it will hold pressure long term. So I’m fairly confident that the injectors are at least mostly ruled out of the trouble area at the moment.

After all of that here is my dilemma.... does this fuel system stay charged with fuel pressure if the regulator is functioning properly?? If so what pressure should it hold? And what else might I be missing??

Sorry for the delay in response. I actually ended up adding an in line aftermarket adjustable regulator down stream of the OEM regulator. Complete with inline gauge. It’s helped my problem immensely. I believe the real issue is leaking injectors but have yet to isolate them individually.
