@scleaf The reason why I posted a reply was my passive/aggressive way of "BUMP"ing your thread to the top.

Not taking this personally, it is an option that many have used, In my opinion not as secure but is much cheaper. I have personally made every lock sold, and appreciate everyone on TW who has bought one. You guys are the reason I keep making them and also for the 2016+ trucks. I work 7 days a week to keep up as this is my second job.

I was always a believer of you get what you pay for so I offer a quality option of preventing some sb from removing your tailgate. I have this on my 2013 with the cable mod and sleep well at night.

People have various reasons and thoughts on what makes them feel safe. The alternatives are good solutions as well. The competitive product work to some extent but every one has some issue. Our is the install process. Works for many and not for some.

    Thanks for the bump... Haha

I installed a red one, it's all I could find. I wanted a white one to match my truck. May have to buy another and have it blasted and powder coated white.

The red on a white truck should say stop right when they open the tailgate.

Hopefully. I'll also be putting epoxy on the bolt head. I don't see myself ever removing the tail gate.

I have that on mine and figured it is only coming off the truck if it is smashed or damaged, at that point I will not care so I can cut off the lock or dig the epoxy out, The steel stick I used dried up like having a solid fastener, also did all the hinge bolts.

Will have more stock after this weekend. Thanks again for the nice comments and confidence, It is nice to know our product is working to stop people from stealing the tailgates.

Knowing there are other products out there, but some can be bent or broken if they do not encapsulate the hinge. The trick is multiple methods of security, Cable Lock, Hinge Lock, Locking Handle. You don't have to buy our product as it is pricier I get it (cant make these for free or I would), but make sure whatever you buy does the job. It really needs to encapsulate the hinge to work.

Did a little test on .125 steel vs .190 in a vice with a 1/2 torque wrench. .190 bends at 70 ft lbs and .125 at 60 ft lbs and I was able to bend it with a crescent wrench as well.

I get calls all the time stating the bracket they had was bent out of the way or the clamp was on the floor. Just the other day a guy called after his third tailgate was stolen. Not sure what happened there, but it was a F-250 in Florida which is a high theft area.

Regardless make sure you feel comfortable with what you put on your truck. You do get what you pay for in the end and we deliver a quality product with whatever support you need to make it a success.

If you have one of our lock and had your tailgate stolen post it here as I want to know.

If you have your tailgate and have not lefta review, you can leave one here on the product page:

Thanks again, you all are ausome people and I have had some great conversations here since i joined the forum in 2013 and as @scleaf in 2014

A couple things I've noticed after the install of mine.
I used dish soap and water and it was difficult to install. I saw somewhere else to use car soap, full strength and rinse well when done.
My clamp was difficult to install (couldn't get the gate back on the hinge). Watched the video multiple times and finally got it.

Awesome product. The only improvement I see is to make them available in factory colors. But that might add significantly to the price.

Will think about the color options, I could always sell them machine finished and then people could paint them to their desired color.

Was anyone interested in unpainted locks? Getting ready to make another run on these. I can leave them machined finished if needed.

I can't for the life of me get it to install. Plates are rotated and together. The outer plate can't move to be upwards like in your install video because the tab hits the tailgate skin. Though even if I could move it to that orientation I don't think it would make a difference in the thickness.

Couple photos...maybe its something easy that I just don't see.

Those two pieces need to be flush and then try to get the front edge as far left as possible. Go slow it will fit. Some people have loosened the hinge a little. The 12 mm bolt and the two torxs. Have it in the instructions with a few pics. Noted the additional steps on the bottom.
