So I just got 17” TRD PRO rims and plan on getting these Denso TPMS sensors for them which I believe will work , correct me if I’m wrong please.

    Denso pn 550-0103

And the steel spare replacement would be ?

    Denso pn 550-0104

I’ll hopefully find someone that can program them , anyone know of a programmer that will work ? Cheap lol

You should be able to use the alloy ones in a steel wheel, just not the other way around. Only difference is the steel ones angle down into the well more, and will hit in an alloy wheel.

AFAIK, unless an '07 is different from my '11, you need something to write the sensor IDs to the ECU, unless you use cloneable sensors. Either way, not a cheap tool, Autel makes a reasonably priced one that'll clone their sensors, but only theirs.

I used VDOs, and ended up needing to bum a Bartec tool that would do something special with them (they're semi-universal) after installing. Upside was it did that and read the IDs in one step, then just plug it in to the ODB2 and turn the truck on, and it wrote the new IDs to the ECU. In other words, unless you've got a lot of use for one, might as well pay $20ish to have someone who has a reason to own the right tool do it for you.

That’s for the reply , I’m hoping that someone in my area can reprogram them or I will have to buy a tool. I’m not paying Toyota what they what to do it that’s for sure ( they want 97 per sensor and 150 to program them! !)

As mentioned above the sensor for the steel wheel spare will be the same as the other wheels. I recently went through changing out my TPMS on my 07 when I bought some TRD off road wheels and tires with less than 200 miles off Craigslist. The TPMS were still mounted, but reading through posts, I knew they wouldn't work with my truck. I didn't want the tires (they went to my son who runs the same tire) so off to Discount I went with my new Denso TPMS purchased from RockAuto. Cool, new tires, wheels and new TPMS on my then 11 year old truck. Walking out to drive away I was stoked to see the new look, but when I got in and saw the TPMS ligh on I was like WTF! I went back to the techs that were working on my truck asking for why the light was on. They said their scanner couldn't read the new sensors and I had to go to the Dealer. OH hell NO, I ain't gonin to no dealer.

After further searches on this site and a few questions, I was given a few options. Take it to the dealer or reprogram the ECU myself using Toyota's Techstream Diagnostics. Now here was the bad news, unless you know the sensor IDs of the new TPMS sensors, you will have to pull the wheels, since you will have to read the sensor ID code off the side of the TPMS sensor and the sensor ID is not printed on the outside of the Denso box.

Guess what, I didn't have the ID numbers. Again I talked with Discount and they agreeded to break the bead on the tires so I could get the numbers for no charge. I then purchased the Techstream off Amazon and was ready to get this hicup over and done. The Techstream arrived a couple of days later and I played around with it to get familiar with the program. On Monday morning I go back to Discount dreading the whole process on my new wheels and tires, but also wanted the sensors to do what they're intended to do. So now I'm inside talking to the manager what I needed and he calls another guy over and explains the problem. This guy shakes his head, grabs a scanner and walks out to my truck. Within about 10 minutes, he shows me the ID numbers of all 5 sensors and then programs the ECU. No more TPMS light without having to remove and break the bead on my new wheels and tires. Happy days are here again!

Lessons learned. Get the numbers, if not for now, maybe later. Don't take the word of some so called tech as the final say.

Dayum... when I used the Bartec (after 20 minutes fiddling with my old Autel and finding out it can't "unlock" the VDOs) it was literally 5 minutes. Select the vehicle, tone the 4 sensors through the sidewall, then plug it in and hit the key so it can write the IDs, and it's done. Even entering the IDs manually can't take 20 minutes.

I don't remember it being $50. Let me check and I'll let you know. Seemed more like $30.

From what I understand, if you don't do the spare tire, the light will still come on. I know mine came on once when my spare was low on air pressure.

Denso 550-0104 does not fit the 16in "bullet hole" spare(the angle is wrong), but does fit the other 4 standard 16in wheels... Screw TPMS.. Screw a non-standard spare, got a set of someones takeoffs for extras

I recall 2nd Gen also only holds 4 sensors and you won’t be able to program the 5th. Doing so would require swapping codes. I have been running unmapped sensors for awhile since the shop I went to were idiots and couldn’t program.
