Thanks. Yup, I'm using their adapter with my external speaker. I kinda figured that I'd somehow drive 8 Ohm speaker, I was just hoping that it wouldn't make much difference 4 or 8 ohm if the speaker would be amplified. The transceiver would power the amplifier instead of speaker itself. Or am I wrong?

Yeah, the actual amp is all that the radio would drive, and not many of those would present that low of an impedance (4Ω or 8Ω) to the radio's output. (Think about it, if the input stage of the amp was something like 4Ω, that input stage would need to be able to dissipate the power output by the radio. By having an much higher input impedance on the amp, these cheap amps won't have to deal with components or housings to handle that kinda heat).

You're spot on: Radio drives Amp input, and the Amp has to deal with whatever speaker load...

The connector is an RJ-12 and not difficult to source. it's the same connector that was used for years on corded telephones (between phone and handset). You can still find coiled cords with all 6-conductors present and simply rewire into the Mic...

Alternately, you could use the opportunity to add an extension in there, and maybe get a little less wear, or something that you wouldn't chew on so much.

Not sure what is that for, but there is an 8 conductor replacement cable for Kenwood radios that you can buy on Amazon

Thanks. Although I was looking for external speaker in headliner pics
OK, so that's a Yaesu right? Not sure how much original replacement microphone costs, but here is a cheap replacement abcGoodefg MH-48A6J 6 Pin 22" Coil Cord DTMF Speaker Microphone with Button for Yaesu MH-48A6J FT-7800R FT-8800R FT-8900R FT-7900R FT-7100M1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YBTM5A4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0LAKCb11165G8 if it isn't good at all, you could use it for a donor cable Here is a cheap replacement microphone cable

That's amazing! you rock :headbang: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018FNQ58E

I had to replace a missing MIC for my other FT-2800M radio, and that costed 75 bucks.

I can only take partial credit for that. I wouldn't even think of looking for it there, if not for @5nahalf finding 8 conductor Kenwood replacement

Did you use the provided switch to raise and lower it? I've been trying to find a wiring diagram for it to see if I can rig up something else since that switch seems kinda bulky.

Exactly, but I always like to map things out in my head before I buy stuff. I want to make sure a switchpro or similar setup can trigger the motor.

Probably easier to just run a SPDT switch. Switchpro does explicitly state that their unit isn't to be used as a winch controller, but not sure if that is just legal language.

So glad I found this thread! I'm going up for my tech license on Saturday. I wanted to use ham for off roading like most everyone else. I was doing a bit of research and think I kind of overbought on my radio. Got a TYT UV-380. It's capable of DMR, but mainly I got it because I read it xmits/rcvs really clear. I don't do well with picking out voice from static.

Has anyone used this radio before? I'm still a new guy and am not sure how to set up the analog features on it. Looked at videos for it and they're all about it's DMR capabilities. Any help would be appreciated!
