OP, does the dealer own the shop? If so, chances are the dealer only paid for parts. Most mechanics are hourly or salary and would be paid either way. Some work for commission but the prices he is showing are basically what a customer would pay. I think its safe to assume he didnt actually pay anywhere near what those quotes say unless he took it to another dealership for the work.

It sounds like he's just playing hard ball. What I did notice was he had that done in January which means its been on the lot for at least 60 days. I bet you can get him to drop lower than $8k. I would bring quotes on other similar trucks that are around $4-5k. If he know's you are only looking at Tacoma's he'll know he has the upper hand.

That truck must have had a really shitty PO if required all that work. I wonder what else is neglected there. I guess it was taken as trade-in for 1000 dollars or less.

Yea, it doesn't make sense! Looks the both rear brakes were completely taken care of, shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, drums. in #7 and then to say what it does in # 10 makes no sense at all. Somebody got ripped off.

I’m selling my 1997 4cyl manual with 156K miles for $6K OBO if your interested. It sure if you will be since you’re looking for more of a work truck.
It has a small leak in the power steering (I know exactly where it’s coming from and can tell you if you’re interested). Makes the truck whine when turning at slow speed, but power steering works great and doesn’t whine when driving on the freeway. Already replaced the rack and pinion, tie rods, radiator, A/C evaporator core, rear shocks, and some other things all in the posting. It’s listed in the 1st gens for sale page. Doesn’t have the bug shield anymore. I can take pics of frame if you’d like. Normal flaky rust on the frame.

This is rough.. find one and it already has a deposit. Literally have to look everyday multiple times a day and make a decision right then and there.

Well, for reference I just bought a 190k 2001 V6 4x4 for $7300. I had to do the timing belt on mine. However, the seller gave me EXTENSIVE records. The truck had a new frame.

Sounds like you're at a good starting point. If it all checks out it could be the one.

Depends on shape of the frame and carfax but overall the price is the higher end of acceptable. If the truck's in very good shape, this is a very good price.

I just drove it and it drove fine. Went 60 mph. No shakes or anything. Cruise control worked. All windows are operable. Inside was fine just needed a good cleaning. All the gauges worked. Lights wipers everything worked.

There are a few issues though. Damaged front bumper that is due to be replaced. Some paint chipping on the hood. Paint chipping on driver side rear quarter panel. Rear tail light is damaged it’s going to get replaced as well.

Major issues are the engine gaskets are leaking. It is a minor leak on both sides of the engine. The engine bay wasn’t caked in oil so nothing to bad.

Looked underneath and the transfer case plug was missing. So that was a little concerning.

    Thoughts? Photos pending

    Here is a frame shot

If you are not absolutely in love and must have it, then wait, you may have some leverage since its a manual transmission. Else pony up the 13K.
