Apparently you, me, and A LOT of other people. Man, Coyote Canyon and Sheep Canyon were busy, weren't they?!? We much preferred more remote parts of the park, though the flowers in Coyote Canyon were spectacular.

Yeah I've been to sheep canyon before and it's always packed. Not by decent folks either it seems. My wife got out of bed to yell at the a*holes blasting music at 10:30pm. We wanted a quick and dirty trip, but damn....I forget how much people f*in suck in the wild. We got in to the last spot in Sheep Canyon, near the old van and first gen, Saturday afternoon and left first thing Sunday.

That is a Flippac. They are no longer in production and have several downsides. The Flippac, Wildernest, and hardside popup campers have led to the newer wedge type of camper shells by Vagabond and GFC.

I had a color matched Flippac and enjoyed it but quickly became aware of some issues inherent in the design.

Thanks for your input @ETAV8R, but since he asked me a ??? I'll answer.

It is a 2012 AT Flip PAC, not the original FRP. I bought it from a well respected TW @G.T. member and has been well taken care of. He had it custom made with all options including the Windoors on both sides, and color matched Pyrite Mica. I love it, a major game changer over RTTs and camper shell camping....to each his own.

As @ETAV8R mentioned, the FP (FRP) has "issues", but doesn't everything? That's part of the joy of enjoying what we have...tinkering, correcting and improving. The Drifter and GFC will have their "issues" but they're so new and haven't showed up yet.

I love my Flip PAC, no buyer's remorse, and enjoying it as I personalize it with my own mods.

AFAIK from speaking to the owners at FRP they made the AT ones too and there were no differences. Glad you don't have the gremlins.

FlipPacs are delightful for certain uses and environments.

They don’t handle moisture well at all long term so the desert southwest is one place they shine. In wetter climates you really need to keep up on a lot of undocumented preventative maintenance.

The tent isn’t waterproof so you have to deal with a separate fly so again best suited to dry climes.

It’s a tent with lots of ventilation. So advantage in warm climates and a downside in the cold.

When open they have truly an enormous amount of interior space. The various hard side pop ups and wedge designs are tiny by comparison but of course still more than enough for a couple.

They are very light for the amount of interior space they offer but a wedge is just as light.

One thing they suck at in the desert is that they are louder than hell in a strong wind. Deafening really.

Their biggest maintenance flaw was the torsion bar which at this point seems alleviated by the Sway-A-Way replacement which is better designed and manufactured.

First @G.T. is a rad guy, I remember back when I was looking at Flippac’s He and I spoke a lot and was considering making the drive! Lol definitely a safe investment coming from him.

Second, after a lot of research and searching we ended up with a Flippac that was in extremely good condition and it served us well for a long time. Happy to say it is still serving the current owner just as well and we are cozied up in our Drifter from Vagabond.

My point t is it all comes down to what set up is going to work the best for you and what purpose you want it to serve.

Sounds like you have exactly what you’re looking for. All things have their quirks but you take good care of them and they will take good care of you!

    Awesome looking set up

...A short drop from the viewpoint down into the canyon and we were almost immediately in what I think was the most breathtaking canyon of the trip - Canyon sin Nombre.

Not only were the colors amazing, but so was the geology. The entire area had been uplifted in giant synclines and anticlines, and then crushed and folded into amazing shapes. I wasn't the only one who wanted to stop and get out for a closer look - we were both hopping out of the truck on a regular basis at this point.

See tons of photos of what it looked like and read the rest of the adventure at
