I figured I would document my camp trailer build here since the truck is back to being average.

Goal was to get the tent off the truck and to allow it to stay setup for more than one night if required. Oh, and figured out how to weld during this project

    Progress pics so far:

Where did you get the axle and/or hubs to match OEM wheels?

Looking great so far! We decided to go with a tiny micro off road camper and have never regretted it. It is so nice to be able to set up a nice base camp and have just the truck when you want to explore. You can also keepyour stuff loaded and it's much quicker prepping to go. It works for us but I understand it's not for everybody.

Southwest wheel! You can get any width and hub configuration just about. The hubs arent hub centric... but so far so good. Others have run this same hub with good luck!

    Realizing I never updated this.

Trip went well! It was very nice not having to setup and tear down all the time.

One mistake I made, is the axle placement! With the swingout and one bike the trailer tracked nicely. Adding another bike made it go to shit... I didnt account for all that weight hanging off the back (the swingout is beefy!).
Water as a ballast got us home with no issue.

Having the hard cap was also really nice.

I went round and round with this and finally went with the Dexter 6 lug and a Spidertrax wheel spacer. The wheel spacer are lug-centric on the axle side of things and hubcentric on the wheel side of things. You just have to account for this when ordering the axle and order an axle that's narrower by the width of the two wheel spacers (which is why I have an extra axle leaning up in the corner of my garage :frusty:)

Yeah... my teardrop took about three years just building when I had spare time. The big thing that kept it from getting axed was making sure that I left enough room in the garage for my wife to put her car in every night. Now she (and the kids) love the teardrop.

I have spacers in the shed right now. So far so good, but I know it's a risk. Trying to avoid a new axle lol
