I think he is asking about the courtesy lamp switch. I've never owned a std cab, but looked at a few pics on Rancho Toyota site and saw this door pic. Looks like the switch peeking out from the front, lower area.

When that switch closes it completes the circuit to ground

I have no idea if that works for the alarm wired the correct way it would work depending what your dealing with alarm wise

Trigger wire for what? Are you looking for a circuit that tells you if the door is opened or closed?

There are two circuits you can use, and they are both ground switched. There is a door lock actuator sensor on power door equipped trucks to tell the Integration Module and/or stock RS3000 alarm system that a door is open. Or you can use the circuit that connects to the courtesy lights, should also be ground switched.

I’am looking for a negative door trigger wire when you open the door it’s negative and when closed you get 12v circuit that would trigger the aftermarket car alarm I will install

every alarm I have removed from a Tacoma has been hooked into the wiring under the panel by your left foot or left knee. I dont know if a 98 has a Body ECU or not... I dont have a wiring manual for that year... 96, and 2000 and up yes. Maybe some else here can upload the door lock portion of the diagram.

when I removed the alarm from my 98 I didnt check to see if the door lock portion was grounding or powering the wire... sorry. I just got tired of the locks auto locking as I drove off and having to push a button to unlock as I get out.
