    37’s are fine, it’s not fast but you can do 75 fine in 5th on flat ground with no headwinds on 5.29’s. Daily driveable if you’re okay with 12mpg. 40’s would probably render 5th useless for me but I’d venture to say it would still do 65 fine.

    Are the 1st gen guys doing the rear frame boxing plates before putting big axles back there? Trying to see if there’s a real benefit

    For me I just added the frame reinforcements since I was already in there doing the chevy 63 swap and new upper shock mounts and crossmember. Cheap insurance and the plates weren't expensive.

    No boxing, just outside plates. Boxing the frame looks like a major pita for not much gain and potential rusting.

    X2. ive had no issues with the frame then again i plated the whole thing on the side and bottom with 1/4 from front to back. look back i think that was over kill 3/16 would have been plenty.

    Boxed here but planning to plate the outside while doing the rear axle with shock towers. Wasn’t a huge pita with the bed and gas tank already out.

    Bro fuck wire wheeling. They made these cool paint and rust removal pads for grinders. They look like a scotch Brite. Spend the money save the time . Trust me on this one.

    The gas tank is actually stupid easy to drop, takes like 10mins, especially if you have a trans jack.

    For sure, I would even use flap discs instead of a wire wheel. The only time the wire wheel comes out these days is knocking the slag off after welding.

    Keeping it light is key. My truck weighs 5250lbs, on 33s and 4.88s. It'll do 90 in 4th but it takes a while to get there. Being >5k above sea level doesn't help things. I couldn't imagine 40s on my truck.

    Agree. Just did mine this week. Not sure why everyone makes it seem like the worst thing. I think it's easier to drop than remove the bed.
