Hello everyone. I have a 1999 tacoma 4x4 access cab sr5 with 223000 miles. Still runs like a champ but i have a friend with a 97 tacoma that he totaled who had previously purchased a new engine with only 50000 miles on it. It is identical to my 2.7 engine except for the ignition system, mine is electronic his isnt thus it has a cap where mine resemble coil packs. Can I use this engine as a replacement?

why do you want to replace the engine? 223k is nothing for a 2.7l. Unless the truck was neglected and the engine is knocking and having issues... which does not seem to be the case, as you said it still runs like a champ. Not worth the hassle if the engine is still running fine. However, you could still buy it as a spare, but since these engines rarely die, it will be laying around for a long loong time before you resort to using it

I bought my Tacoma from my father who kept the truck in immaculate condition. He sold it to me only because he has diabetes and was tired of clutch and shifting ( he purchased a 2018 automatic). The reason I started this thread is because I LOVE my Tacoma and am only thinking of the future. Hopefully it will last me another 225000 miles. Thanks for responding.

No need to replace it if nothing is broken.
