Just joined this forum figuring someone here probably has the answer to my question-
How big of a tire can I fit on my ‘97 Taco w/a 3” lift? I’ve seen other threads with same question, but it’s all been later models. Not looking to do major mods if possible... if 33’s won’t fit, what would need to be done to make them work?
    TIA

This is a pretty commonly asked question as you've seen in other threads. All first gens are the same from this perspective, so any of those will have the information you're looking for. It's going to depend not only on tire size, but also on wheel selection and type of lift.

For a good discussion of what you'll need to consider, as well as what you'll need to do in terms of clearancing for various tire sizes, check out this article: What size tires fit my lifted Tacoma?

C'mon now, you don't need a cab mount chop to fit 33's on any generation Tacoma.

For pavement driving, no, not really. Put it in the dirt and you are gonna rub like a illegal massage parlor.

No way, not with 35's and definitely not with 33's. Pinch weld and a bit of bashing will clearance 33's on a first gen on any dirt. The cab mount is miles away on these trucks, unlike 2nd/3rd gens. Stop trolling the new guy.

Lol 1st gens don't need cab mount chops for any size tire. I've fully tubbed for 35's, they are still over an inch away from the cab mounts at full stuff and lock.

OP to fit 33's on stock or neutral offset wheels, all you need is to trim/bash the pinch weld and cut away some of the fender liner and maybe flare. Look up the pinch weld mod.

You're thinking of the pinch weld mod, not the cab mount chop... Newer 4Runners and maybe the 2nd 3rd gen Tacomas, but I've never heard of a 1st gen needing a cab mount chop.
