    Hey Tacomaworld:

Any of you have any experience in towing an X22 or any other mastercraft (or other) wakesurf focused boats with your 3rd Gens?

5.5k lbs dry so I'm thinking it might be a close call behind my Tacoma.

    Thanks!

I haven’t but I wouldn’t. We use my wife’s Tahoe for our X30. I feel like it would be safer with a V8 and heavier truck. Just my opinion, plus we have our two boys with us. Don’t want to compromise everyone’s safety. We also had to climb a mountain so there’s that. Maybe towing it dry without fuel would be ok on a flat grade but I always err on the side of caution.

5.5k dry might be a bit much, especially when you're on a wet boat ramp, the boat has gas, gear, coolers, and the trailer is in the water. Tacoma's rear end is pretty light and I'd hate to see you struggle on a wet, mossy ramp haha. That's a slick boat though!

No way, dont do it unless you want to end up on the boat ramp bloopers reel.

Boat itself is 5.5 add another 1K for trailer and you are way over the weight of the Tacoma itself.
Then add fluids and biggest culprit 90 gals of gas, there’s another 1k.
The truck will prob be fine pulling it on a flat road, but get on a slick ramp or braking on the Fwy and youre screwed.

We pull our x45 with our landcruiser 5.7 v8, which is a beast unto itself, and there are plenty of times where i wish we had a bigger tow vehicle.

@TACOmobbin I think it's time for a Tundra or another full size pick-up. There's not way you should be towing that heavy of a combined load with the Tacoma. I'm sure you can do it, but it will not be safe.

hmm, my ex had a top of the line Ski Natique, 5.7L GM engine, it held 35 gallons IIRC. or at least that's how much gas I hauled down the docks and siphoned in every freaking morning....

With the Tacoma, I've seen a good rule for towing capacity is keeping what you're towing under 4000# dry and under 24 ft in length. 5500# dry is way to much IMO. I have towed at the tacoma limit as well as had the total GVW near that 11k# a few times and it is a handful without a doubt.

The tacoma is too light of a vehicle as well as a bit too short for what you're intending to tow.

I have a smaller 17' 3.0 bow rider. Fairly light boat and trailer, and it makes my '16 TRD OR sag and I can unfortunately feel it on the interstate and trying to stop.

I far prefer more wheelbase when towing my boat, which by the way is a pretty big fucker, 21' aluminum Profish and it's got a 40 gallon tank. Boat is around 3800lbs loaded and the trailer is probably 1100, so within the tow rating of the Taco, but after 3 Tacomas I finally stepped up to a full size and it is much better at towing.
