Did a quick turn and burn to silver city and took 152 through the Black Range.

152 is a great sports car road! 61 goes north from that road and gets you to 2 National Forest campgrounds. Black Canyon is my favourite.

I bet it would be a blast in a sports car I saw a group of corvettes zooming by the other direction. That looks like a real nice area how’s that road going up there? Looks like some good twists and turns. I’ve really only been up to Lake Roberts in that general direction.

My wife and I had an impromptu adventure on Saturday. We pointed the 4Runner south and let the day play out.

We ended up on top of a mountain, and along the way saw mule deer, elk, rain, hail, snow, wind and blue skies. The views were spectacular and sections of the trail were still covered with impassable layers of thick ice and rotten snow, forcing us to backtrack our way out of the range. We spent 5 hours and ~110 miles on dirt, not too bad for leaving town at 12:30p.

Heading into the range, it looked like we might be in for some precipitation.

Eating red meat, sweets, and bacon is also not recommended. I still eat them.

The storm began to break as we gained elevation.

Much of the route traverses a vast burn scar and the accelerated erosion is taking its toll.

Nice photos, Nick! I believe that photo #16 was the place where I gouged a wheel (old 4-runner alloy) going up, when someone came down & I had to dodge right.

Thanks, Greg. Yeah, that's a tight turn right there with nowhere to go on either side.

My wife and I got out last weekend for a night of camping at the Rio Chama Campground for my birthday weekend. I haven't been up in that area for a long time and forgot how beautiful the canyons are during sunset.

Happy belated birthday, and thanks for sharing some pics. That's just downriver from the monastery, right? Seems like a great place to camp this time of year.

Thank you and yes it was. It was a really nice weekend. The river was super high and running really fast so we didn't really get to try to enjoy it like we originally planned on doing.

The river (Rio Grande) is crazy high this year! Finally! I rode down to the Bosque trails here in LL over the weekend and they were covered with 5-6’ of water. I haven’t seen the river this wide and high flowing in over 10 years. It’s awesome

Isn’t it great. Wolf Creek ski area got over 500”, so I would guess Stoney Pass got about the same.
