I have been looking at upgrading the stock headunit in my 2016 Tacoma with a Wireless CarPlay supported headunit. Initially I was between the Pioneer AVH4400NEX and the Alpine ilx-107. From what I could tell the pioneer seems to be the better unit. Presently it is on sale at crutchfield, which makes me think an update may be coming soon... https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1304400NEX/Pioneer-AVH-W4400NEX.html?search=carplay_4400&skipvs=T

There is now a new unit out from JVC the KW-M855BW. Does anybody have any insight about this new stereo https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWM855B/JVC-KW-M855BW.html

It appears to have the same functionality in regards to carplay, resistive screen, camera support etc. I do like the minimalist bezel without the needless illuminated buttons. As this is a newer radio I imagine there is a faster processor and therefore better boot time...

Can anybody speak to the general quality/reliability of JVC vs Pioneer radios?

Haven't had good results out of JVC over the last few years. They're VERY laggy. Hit the settings button and it might take 4-5 seconds to load. They only get worse as they add in more features. I use the pioneer 4400 as my shop stereo and love it! Wireless carplay works great, it's very responsive, sound quality is good enough, has HDMI input, 2 cam inputs, and the included GPS antenna helps with Apple/Google maps and Waze if your phone service is spotty.

I have the Alpine ILX-107 great system, your just restricted to Apple I-phones. There’s little you cain’t do with the system with the correct connections.
