OBDII Bluetooth Device for iOS? 1st gen

    Anyone know of a high quality OBDII Bluetooth capable Car Scanner that'll give real time data, like coolant temp, transmission temp, maybe mpg, and whatever else

    Something similar to Scan Gauge II, but bluetooth to toggle into phone - specifically iphone in my case.

    I realize there may be threads on this from 8 years ago but I'm interested in today's technology and today's newer model scanners - there are so many to choose from!
    Looking for thoughts, tips, and product recommendations

    This got pretty decent reviews, thanks for the recommendation.
    When connected via wifi, does this interefere with streaming music? (in the event the phone tries to stream music through wifi connection with no internet)

    i personally have not tried while reading it. I would assume no issues since its not bluetooth.

    Yes, you can get around this by downloading music to your phone. but its never been an issue for me as I pretty much just use to to read and clear codes.

    Makes sense. so because it's connected to wifi it pretty much makes any internet usage not applicable is what I'm understanding.
    In essence it's best for reading and clearing codes on the fly - you wouldn't keep it connected for an extended road trip to watch temps if you're towing, and still wanted internet on your phone.

    Bluetooth is Bluetooth.

    If you have a smart TV close enough to your car, you can even see your codes/etc. on your big screen. In cases like these, it's the app that's more important.

    You can use bluetooth. Wifi sucks because it blocks your internet usage.

    I have used the gopoint one which used to be the only one able to use bluetooth. Now I use carista which is cheaper and does the same thing.

    BlueDriver is tough to beat.
    as for reading some live data, it isnt 100% the tool used, some manufacturers dont have those PID's avalible for viewing and some Scanners cant scan certain manufacturers... there is a piss you off factor in buying a scanner as there is no one tool to do it all. You didnt mention a budget... Launch makes an excellant scanner and will probably do more than what you want but for the sub $100, Bluedriver.

    No, that’s wrong. You must be a 3rd gen owner. Not any Bluetooth is Apple compatible. Among other countless tech accessories that aren’t Apple compatible. Thanks Apple

    Interesting, I’ll have to check out Launch. Bluedriver was a top pick on other websites I read as well. Thanks for the tip.

    Reading through the reviews it sounded like people with Apple had to use WiFi as the Bluetooth wouldn’t work

    In my haste I forgot one thing... what ever tool you buy you will always wished it did more. Your buddies ABS light comes on on his Silverado and maybe your scanner can read ABS, maybe it cant. It is what they DONT tell you that it cant do is the annoying part.
