    Hey all,

Unfortunately, my tailgate was stolen off my truck last night in Seattle and I'm just throwing this out there incase someone has one for sale.

I've reported it and I'm checking my other options (ebay, junkyards, craigslist, etc).

If any suggestions or leads, let me know!

    Cheers,
    Marcello

Keep an eye on craigslist and apps like offerup. Check your surrounding area within 20 or so miles. Usually its people from out of town but within a half hour drive.

Hope you’re able to get it replaced for cheap or maybe even track the guys who took it.

@LivinOnEdge Thanks, yeah I am keeping my eyes peeled on those sites.

@ST77 Ideally Black, but I am getting quotes for re-paint because that's the more likely scenario.

Your insurance should cover this under your “comprehensive” coverage, which usually has a low deductible and no impact on premiums. Would likely need to file a police report, which you should do anyway even though it won’t make a difference.

    UPDATE:

Not 2 days after the tailgate was stolen, the genius who took it showed back up with his truck (and my tailgate) in front of my house in broad daylight. To make a long story short, the Police got involved and I have my tailgate back. :amen:

Just curious how you or the police were able to prove it was your tailgate? I'm excited you got it back (and hopefully the thief is punished), I'm just wondering if there is a hidden VIN etching or something? Or was there something on your tailgate that made it identifiable (sticker, scratch, etc.)

Good question, and the cops asked me the same thing. I have a Pop n Lock tailgate handle that is sun-faded, so I could identify it that way plus I have a key for it. That, as well as a couple identifying marks and photos on my phone to show it installed on my vehicle.

Unfortunately in the end they didn't arrest him. The truck was registered to a family member and he was denying any knowledge of stolen property. The cops decided they wouldn't be able to prove in a court that he was the one who did the deed without witnesses or video proof. My feeling is that the evidence was enough to hold someone responsible (either the driver or the registered owner) for posession of stolen property, but this was not high enough on the Police priority list to bother with. I think that it's BS that it was not pursued, however I also see the other stuff that goes on around here and there are more serious crimes being commited. It's resource management of an understaffed police force. Plus, I got my tailgate back so that is the important part.
