So I’ve read in these forums that after doing the TSB it’s like a 50/50 fix. Very concerning. Mine has been at the dealer for a week. Last I called said they finished with one side and it should be ready Monday evening. I don’t think I have the time and patience to keep going back to the dealer for “fixes”. I have 500 miles on my 2019, if this tsb doesn’t fix mine I will consulate with a lawyer to see what my options are.

Good us posted. I'm thinking the same. I opened a case with Toyota yesterday.

What is the process of opening a case with Toyota?
I honestly don’t want to resort to this. I really like the truck. This my second Tacoma and I don’t see myself owning any other truck. I’m hoping this TSB fixes the issue. Heck I’ll even be satisfied if it’s a lot better but stays that way.

The rear drums are out of round. I had the exact same issue and high speed as well as low. The rear drums were found to be very warped. Toyota turned them under warranty at 10k. Now at 25k it is back again. The rear drums are once again warped. I believe they have a casting issue with the rear drums. It is not the axles or the drive shaft or the drive shaft angle.

To verify. Try stopping with the e brake. It will reveal it big time.

Yes, I have it. It’s actually gotten better since I took it to the dealer and they checked everything out. Dealer said the drums are slightly out of round due to too much heat from braking. They said they can’t warranty wear parts like these.

Weird thing is I haven’t noticed it barely at all as of late

I've read about this elsewhere on TW. Mine does it as well-since new. It feels like an ABS pulse so I started trying to find a pattern (speed, road condition, etc) and finally one day I noticed it did it at a red light while I was stopped. The pulse/vibration is always the same duration as far as time goes and it only does it at slow speed or no speed. Wondering if it's something in the computer, ABS, etc.

It definitely makes sense about rear drums being out of round. In my experience with working on cars, the you feel a vibration at the brake pedal it’s always the rear brakes. And in this case it’s drums. I’m not an engineer, but I don’t know why or how the rear axles would cause the drums to be warped. I’m just hoping after replacing the axles due to the TSB and replacing rear drums this issue get fixed. With only 500 miles on my truck it’s pretty frustrating.

I don’t think there’s enough official complaints by the consumers. This is why I think Toyota hasn’t came up with an official “fix”.

I believe that replacing the rear drums with a set of after market drums will solve the issue. The ones from Toyota are awful.

I guess mine's unusual- It pulses while I'm not moving. Although I first noticed it at slow-speed braking.

My 17 did this new but they replaced the rear drums under warranty and it hasn’t resurfaced in 2 years

When I receive mine back on Monday if I still notice a slight vibrating when braking, I may consider buying some good aftermarket rear drums and installing them myself. Let’s see if it works out.

I’ve been dealing with the same issue and then some, dealer thought they had a TSB, Verified the shudder, found out they couldn’t fix, replaced some of the parts from the TSB, then changed their write up to “very slight vibration” and “tech installed new wheel bearings because they thought it was a TSB”, Toyota Corporate gave the old “normal at this time”. Replace “very slight” with “goddam washboard”.

Get yourself a beer and a snack and read all about it here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/i-need-tacomaworlds-help-poll.604396/

Just to update my issue, the selling dealer had the local tech rep test drive my truck and compare to a new one and said it’s normal and the returned the truck to me.

I tried another dealer and they started telling me it was normal before I even finished my write up. Toyota definitely know about this issue and won’t make any repairs to avoid lemon buybacks.

I actually think my issue is the front brakes as it’s becoming more and more noticeable. More research on this site finds that front brakes are becoming a very widespread issue. I’m going to file a complaint with Toyota corporate tomorrow and I guess just wait for a fix from Toyota.

    Thanks for the help gentlemen!

I bought aftermarket drums, but no change. Put the Toyota drums back on. I plan to live with the vibration until they come up with a fix.

Okay. I want you guys to try this. I am one of those who is experiencing the shutter feeling too in my 2019 off road. Today I loaded up my box with 400 pounds of pellets. To my surprise, my ride back to my house there was no shutter braking. NONE. SMOOTH!! It was awesome. If some of you folks try this and compare.

I recently traded a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for a Toyota Tacoma TRD OR. After buying Chrysler products for 30 continuous years, I noticed a significant decline in the overall quality of the vehicles and a marked deterioration in the customer treatment over the past 5 or 6 years.

This Tacoma feels infinitely better put together, quieter and more refined than any Wrangler I owned. At the same time, Jeep engineers seem to have greater expertise tuning suspensions to handle rough off-road surfaces than Toyota. And none of my Jeeps ever had driveline and/or brake vibrations like these I am now getting on my 2-week old Tacoma.

Life is a sequence of choices. And every time we choose to get something new we usually have to give something up. When I ditched Jeep for Toyota I was looking for better assembly quality, more confident onroad manners and better customer service. On that regard, Tacoma does feel better assembled, and drives and handles better on the freeway. However, these vibrations are now becoming a concern. Next I’ll have to see if Toyota customer service is any better than what I was getting from Jeep —which, admittedly, shouldn’t be too difficult to exceed.

i'll have to say BS to this no way they (dealership) will replace rear axles, bearing, and drums and then give you a new truck cause the rear brakes are pulsating.

LOL that's convienant. Tacomas have drum brakes because they're "better Offroad", but won't fix them because they "overheat". Isn't one of the big advantages to disc brakes heat management?

its funny how all previous Tacoma trucks rear drums will all clock over 200k miles with minimal or not any adjusting or brake pad replacements, all of a sudden the rear axles, bearings and the whole truck needs to get replaced cause all of a sudden the drums warp, also drums don't warp.
