Head unit upgrade OEM vs Aftermarket

    2017 Tacoma Access cab SR5 V6
    I have a 2017 Tacoma SR5 Access cab V6 2wd. It has a NON JBL Standard radio with sirius/xm. I want to upgrade. Pros and cons of getting an Entune Premium vs aftermarket. Anyone found an aftermarket that can make use of the OEM satellite antenna? Thank you.

    Just did this last week and wrapping up the final tweaks now.

    - Maestro makes a SAT02 adapter that will allow aftermarket headunits to work with stock XM antenna and radio antenna
    - I went with a JVC from Crutchfield that was on sale and not 100% pleased as I had to purchase a separate XM tuner
    - XM tuner plugged right into the factory satellite antenna...HOWEVER....the reception was very poor and the radio would lose signal off and on
    - Ended up using the XM satellite tuner aftermarket antenna and is working nicely now


    A few notes:
    - You WILL lose your nav displays on the headsup display on your dash
    - You WILL lose some of the steering wheel functionality even with the Maestro RR datalink box, I would imagine that the results differ between aftermarket radio models and such (for instance....I cannot select XM from my mode list on the headsup display even though it is displayed....BUT....I can select Carplay and Tuner with no problem)
    - I cut costs on the JVC unit but am paying for it by not having wireless Carplay....not a biggie but definetly something I will look into more as the prices drop on future units that offer this

    Overall I am please with the gains I received overall though I did lose a few very nice to have items.

    Hopefully future Toyota radios will have Carplay and will be an easy swap as I really liked the OEM feel of the headsup dash display

    Yes - original radio was Entune non-JBL unit.

    I really miss the full functionality of the Entune but Carplay makes up for shortcomings. Dealing with some oddities now with this setup that I suspect is a bad ground with a set of Hella horns I have on there
