What are the 3 we are going to run again? @mountainmonkey

Can't have @teamhypoxia or @Squeaky Penguin (I forget which) claiming they are the sole TW peeps who ran all 3 in a day.

Does anyone know if Chinn's Lake is passable? The wife wants to get up there this weekend. I know it can be snowed in until the beginning or mid July. TIA

You would think for sure it would be open now but Bush Ducks only has this, given time lapse I say it is open.

    Chinns Lake
    FR174.1D
Clear Creek 303-567-3000 Partially Open 5/28/18
    COMMENTS:
5/28/18 - Not open all the way. Passable until about 1/4 mile or less from Lower Chinns. Mainly dirt until the last climb up to Chinns. Drifted in the shade and trees. Was able to make it up nearly all the way to the lake but was stopped by a long drift about 3 or 4 ft deep on the uphill side, covering 90% of the trail. Downhill side of the trail is dirt. Passable if you shovel the drift, but not sure how long it is. Winching most likely necessary to make it to the lake.

Just to follow up, the road was clear all the way up and there were more people than campsites all weekend. I need to find a "Chinns Lake" for my stock Taco that isn't that close to the front range.

Yep, that's Chinns Lake unfortunately. Any shooting going on? There shouldn't have been with the ban in effect, but we all know not everyone follows the ban. Last time I was up there, there were a ton a people practically setup on top of each other. I was there to fish, so I went up higher to get away from the Chinns crowd. Once I was there, I could hear shooting very close and hoped the shooters had enough sense not to shoot in the direction of the road/trail and campers, and were using an adequate backstop.

Too bad that trail isn't tougher, as that may help keep the crowd size down. It's a pretty area, less the humans.

No shooting while I was up there but I did see a couple of campfires on Friday night. I'm sympathetic to how much better camping is with a fire but not willing to risk it or break the law I got a propane firepit for such occasions and it does a decent job as a replacement. But yeah... a ton of people. My brother has a Taco and is coming up from OK and I want to take him fishing. It would be a Wed. to Friday but I'm wondering if it will still be pretty busy up there duing the week. Maybe Lock Lomand? I need to find a place that stock Taco's can get to but still be a little challenged and has good fishing at the top.

LOL! Grizzly might be a bit too much but maybe Iron Chest? All stock and no armor... what could go wrong? :fingerscrossed:

I had an FJ Cruiser once upon a time. Iron chest was fun but not hard when fully armored and a 3" lift. I tried to get it up that first part for Grizzly and it wasn't happening without winching it over the shelf. Gave it a solid try though.

You know you may be right. We tried the hard side for sure. There were about 6 of us in FJ's. You would be right though... the higher the price of admission...

No point in even attempting the gatekeeper on Grizzly without full skids, unless you don't like your transfer case and driveshaft.

Even then, you'll still almost certainly end up having to winch. That obstacle doesn't play nicely with the wheelbase and breakover angle on our trucks.

Just stumbled on this and don't think I've seen anything about it here. Tomichi closed indefinitely as of last summer.

Hopefully they can get it sorted, along with the Alpine Tunnel, so maybe I could finally run Williams. Guessing neither of those will happen quickly, however.
