Im a big rig driver right now and I agree completely! If you're cocky and thinking you won't have any trouble going right to a big trailer, I will be the first to say right now you're going to be that guy I have personally seen in the ditch on his roof with every lane shut down. Start small an work your way up!

I tow about 2400 pounds (cargo trailer) on a regular basis with a 2.7L 5 speed. My trips are usually from the Charlottesville VA area to Spruce Knob WV. I have towed it as far as Cleveland. I keep my speeds to 65 max and never had a problem.

Totally agree with this. Used my 2018 long bed for when we bought a new house with a enclosed and it felt so akward towing it. Felt like I was being pushed.
However, I have a 10 foot open trailor pulls with ease with my lawn equipment. I also tow a 17 foot bass boat with no issues either.

Just picked up a 2019 DC short bed off road MT yesterday. I'm coming from a 02 Dakota with a 4.7l and a rated towing capacity of 6100lbs. I went a few hundred over on a regular basis. I have not hooked on to anything yet, but after reading some of these posts I'm a little worried. Most of our highways in AK are either filled with frost heaves or gravel so I'm not really going over 55 or 60, but there are a lot of hills. Did I just screw myself buying this truck?

Has anybody attempted to pull a 7400lb, 32' travel trailer with their Tacoma? I've got a Second Gen with 35'' tires, 4.56 gears, supercharger, a set of Timbren blocks. I'll also be using a weight distributing hitch. I'm just wondering if I'll be tossed around for the 100 miles I have to tow this thing? Destroy my brakes or blow out my axle?

Are you talking about a single tow or regularly towing?

You can Hail Mary it home but that's a ton of stress on the drivetrain with the big heavy tires.

It all depends on the terrain, traffic conditions, and how fast you want to go. On flat ground at like 55 mph with limited traffic you could probably do it, but the starting & stopping are going to be a issue.

Also depends on your tranny. I have a manual transmission and just backing up a 3000 or 4000 pound trailer up a hill was to much for it. Had to put it in low range. You are way out of the power band on takeoff.
