I have a 2017 TRD off road and noticed while I'm driving and stopped on a hill if I coast backwards at all I get a very loud metallic crunching noise from the front of the truck. It's an automatic. Wondering if anybody has run into this.
    Thanks

That's the sound of something breaking or about to break because vehicles weren't made to go the opposite direction the transmission is in

It's most likely tractions control sensing you roll backwards and 'trying' to stop or at lease slow the vehicle.

Thanks for the replys but guess I'll need to research further. I've had many vehicles and this is the first time I've run into this problem.

has anybody figured out why this is happening. I have the same problem and pulling into a steep driveway or on a hill you should not have to use emergency brake or have foot on gas and brake at same time to prevent rolling backwards in drive as this makes a very loud noise that doesn't sound good

A vehicle with an automatic transmission that does not have hill assist will roll back on a hill if the throttle isn't enough to counter gravity.
