I would replace the rear door speakers. I wouldn't the front speakers unless you plan on adding an additional amp. Like destin meeks said above, the way to add amps and get good clean (meaning full range) signal, you could add the Amppro in order to do that. I have one on the way now.

Super interesting thread here - I’ve got a 2014 TRD with the JBL upgrade and have to say I wish I’d just saved my cash and got a specialist to fit a system for the same price. My bass just dominates everything and the mids and highs don’t have the balance I’m looking for. Could be my ears, of course (!) but I’ll stick with it for now until I can work out a cheap / plug and play upgrade. Welcome any thoughts!

Does anyone know if it is easy to switch the wires going into the factory amp into an aftermarket amp?

Do you have to rewire everything?

I don't think that the factory head unit will work without being connected to the factory amp. I do know that you can tap into the output side of the amp for a subwoofer with a line out convertor. I fought with keeping the factory head unit for a while. You can get the amp pro or other devices to tap into the factory head unit, but you may end up spending more money than just buying a new aftermarket head unit. I did just that and could not be any more pleased. It really makes life a lot easier when wanting to add different audio components. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can tap into the wires, you will just need to get the correct component in order to do so. Just try and picture what you want your end result to include and do some pricing. It may actually be cheaper to go with an aftermarket head unit. In the end, it's all up to you. I hope this helps.
