Brad Marchand, what did Boston sign him for $5million a year, a bargain compared to say Willie Neelander. In order to beat Boston you have to shutdown 1 line and score on Rask. Theres a reason why team Canada play Marchand, Bergereon and Crosby together at the world cup of hockey. Why does iihf have their championship during the playoffs, why not in august?

Good run for the Canes. I think we all kinda knew that at some point, their luck would run out. They just don't have enough to get through a whole run w/o playing completely flawless (which is almost impossible). You need scoring depth, great D and amazing goaltending pretty much every night, when you are down on talent. And they didn't get it. But the Bruins played their game, relied on their skill / depth and Rask was really good. They will be tough. I want whichever West team to win, as I am not a Bruins fan. I do like McAvoy though. So that would be 1 guy I would be cheering for, if they do win.

 

Marchand is signed for 8 years at 6.125 million per. A great deal for now but he’s 31, so if his production drops off it’ll hurt especially since you can’t buy out over 35 contracts. If he helps them get another cup though it’s well worth it.

Comparing him to Nylander is crazy though. Not only are they totally different players, but one is getting overpaid for potential and the other is being potentially overpaid well into retirement. In a cap world both can be extremely risky moves but for totally different reasons.

Rask is playing crazy good right now. I have to wonder if that has to do with how few games he played this year. There is probably something to having a top flight goalie well rested by seasons end.

The IIHF tourney occurs at the end of the European leagues seasons. One of my personal pet peeves with the NHL is June playoff hockey. In Europe they aren’t trying to squeeze every dollar out of a season with a long season and a late spring and summer playoff run. The NHL will never change though and really they don’t need to, it’s good for business to have a long season and playoff.

Who said it was easy, my point is there is no way to shutdown that line, they are too dam good. How may goals did they score against Carolina in game 4?

 

When the top line was shut down our scoring came deeper but still came. So go ahead and shut down one line. The only thing that changes is who gets the goal.

 

If anyone thinks the Bruins go this far without Rask playing totally insane these playoffs is an idiot. That's all there is to it

Rask is playing unreal, and in general the teams that make it to the final have the best playoff goaltending. I mean you still need a great team but with league parity under the cap system being what it is goaltending is a huge difference between being in the first round or making the finals.

I'm surprised they made it this far, Jones at times had been awesome, but more often than not he's been terrible.
