I'm planning on installing a CB antenna on the tailgate of my 09 Access Cab and was researching ways to run the coax from the outside of the cab to the inside. I knew there grommets/plugs on the bottom of the cab that people talk about sealing when they're turning their Tacoma into a boat, but going through those made me nervous in case I ever found myself in an aquatic situation. It also struck me as something a bit too susceptible to branch/debris strikes from underneath. There is one of the grommet/plugs on the center console up above the drive shaft that's a bit more protected and provides a great way to run the coax to the radio. (Pictures by PSU Taco85 here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/181314-where-run-cb-coaxial-cable.html#post3844202) While this seemed like the best option of all the underside ports, I wanted something even better. I heard rumors of a port on the rear side of the cab that would be perfect for running an antenna wire. It was up out of the way, and if I ever decided to ford a river, it would be the best option for keeping the air inside and the water outside.

Through my research, I found a post that pointed me to this place. Specifically, DDD's post here:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/181314-where-run-cb-coaxial-cable.html#post3841190

While I was unable to find any walk-throughs for taking apart the rear seats, DDD's post gave me the gumption I needed to try it myself. I decided to take some pics along the way to help the next person who thought they might try this.

I apologize in advanced for the mediocre pictures. I'm not great at Camerain'

In our first picture, we have the unmolested rear seats of an 09 Access Cab.

The second picture is down into the center console. There are four 10mm bolts to remove.
    2.jpg

    This shows the console removed.
    3.jpg

Next I removed the storage doors. They simply pulled up and off.
    4.jpg

Then I removed the outside two 12mm seat bottom bolts.
    5.jpg

Next the single (per seat) inside 12mm seat bottom bolt.
    6.jpg

This picture shows the seat bottoms removed.
    7.jpg

Next is pulling off the panel just under the headrest. As you can see, they're simply clipped on. A solid tug will remove them.
    8.jpg

Next comes, by far, the worst part. I don't have an in-progress picture, only an after shot. Basically, there are a thousand little plastic things holding the rear panel onto the back of the cab. You must remove all of these. Start at a corner and carefully pull the panel away from the sheet metal. You'll hear some awful pops. Those are the clips pulling away. It's a real pain getting this started and it feels like you're going to break everything. Keep going until you either a) break everything or b) end up with something like this:
    9.jpg

Next is to take the panel off that's under the seatbelt. You'll need to remove a single 14mm bolt from the bottom of the seat belt. After doing that, gently pull the panel towards the middle of the truck until this happens:
    10.jpg

You should now have access to the grommet.
    11.jpg

And here it is from the outside (laying under the front left bed corner looking up)
    12.jpg

At this point you can follow DDD's lead (linked above) and run the antenna cable.

    I hope this helps!

Sweet, looks really good. Does it vibrate the cab much or did you use something to absorb the vibrations?

Thanks, appreciate that. The entire interior of the cab was gutted and sound deadened, there are no rattles at all. I'm using JL's 10TW3s, very happy with the response. Not crazy about the grille covers but haven't gotten around to do anything with them yet.

Thanks for the write up. Dog crate was the main goal. Since I know where the grommets are (thanks!) I’ll install an inverter under the crate in the remaining space. 3F089CCD-566B-496A-8453-6BD83D1A9877.jpg
