Off-road trailer on White Rim Trail?

Has anyone pulled an off-road trailer on the White Rim Trail? I have a trailer with a 4X6 box and a 3 foot tongue. I can take the hairpin turns with the front wheels turned nearly to the stops. I’ve driven the White Rim 5 or 6 years back and recall some tight turns. Also, I have a traditional ball hitch. Should I upgrade the hitch to something like a Locn-N-Roll? I don’t recall any extreme places that would require the trailer to twist or fold at the hitch more than the ball hitch would allow.

 

I am not a trailer guy, but I just finished the White Rim on a bicycle last month. It didn’t seem that any turns were tight and/or off-camber enough to challenge a standard ball hitch, but there are a few breakovers, not to mention some pretty steep grades. Also, there were a few narrow stretches where it sure would be nice to be able to back up easily in case of traffic. Finally, I’d check the Canyonlands NP website as they have pretty strict requirements for the vehicle before issuing the use permit ... maybe trailers aren’t even allowed. EDIT: I just checked, trailers are allowed but count as an extra vehicle for vehicle count limits at campsites.

For an off-road trailer, absolutely. I use a pintle hook and love it. Inexpensive, adjustable, and bombproof.

Not sure about those Lock N Rolls - never seen one. Full articulation is good, but they also look a little dainty.

 

Google “White Rim trailer” ... I found some forum reports with pictures and YouTube videos of trailers on the White Rim.

 

I “Googled White Rim trailer” and watched several videos. I am 60 and use google a lot but it’s not first nature for me. Thanks for suggesting it. It payed off. As a sister note I also got some adds for white trailer rims. White trailer wheels.

 

Not saying it cant be done or that it has not been done many times successfully.

Having done the White Rim in a lifted 3rd Gen 4Runner. I would NOT want to be towing a trailer around the Hardscrabble section regardless of the tow vehicle. . .
