Metal lowers are cheap. There is no reason to use polymer these days. If you use the correct amount of buffer weight, blowbacks have more recoil than DI. Blowbacks have more reciprocating weight, simple physics. I prefer colt mags for 9mm. Way easier to load than glock mags and feeding is more reliable. Imported aftermarket large glock mags (+/- 30 rds) suck, and real Glock version is expensive.

There is a fantastic polymer lower out there, but the shop making them has run into issues recently. GWACS armory made a polymer lower that doesn't suffer the typical polymer strength issues at the buffer tube or pistol grip. These lowers are more durable than mil-spec aluminum ones.

So ive been wanting an over under 12ga shotgun.. but my pockets arent $1200 deep.. anyone have any intel on the cheaper over under options? Theres a couple that hover around the $400-$550 range that i have read some mixed reviews on.

Ideally I want one that I can shoot clay pigeons with regularly and potentially hunt with once a year or so.. aside from that it will hang out in the gun safe. I am pretty good with a shotgun but not good enough to justify a $1k plus shotgun, even if I could afford one.

With all that being said, should I just go buy myself an 870 or Mossberg 538 and wait til i can afford one of the more high end over unders?

thanks for the help, ladies and gents...

Keep an eye on the used market, Especially for an over under. Look for a clay shooter that is slick and well worn and maintained. Honestly sometimes I prefer buying a well used well maintained preowned gun.

also check your local walmart, they have special order firearms. I never looked for the O/U shotgun but I know the 870 is still the cheapest price there.

I graduated Modern Gun's Advanced Gunsmithing Course. I think Modern Gun is probably the best as far as online gunsmith courses go, but really you can only learn so much online, an actual hands-on school is the way to go but there are only a few of those and like you my time was limited.

Any good? Yes, I learned a lot that gave me a good foundation to build on but in no way made me proficient in anything. However, I didn't enroll with the intent of gaining employment afterwards, it was more for personal knowledge than anything else.

Worth the cost? Depends, I used my GI Bill to pay for it so for me it was worth it monetarily. Also, I got a few tools out of it and a ton of reference material I can use whenever I need it. With that being said if I had to pay the cost out of pocket I would probably say no.

Get a side by side and shot it sideways. Duh. In all seriousness check gunbroker then the used market. A lot of coffee table FFLs will sell guns for MAP pricing on GB.

It's common knowledge in the P07/P09 community that the recoil spring on these guns is rather overpowered, and after a mill/red dot/cerakote job it's even more obvious. I started looking into recoil spring replacements and found these dual recoil spring assemblies that I hadn't heard of before. Has anybody used these, or heard of the brand DPM? I know newer Glocks run dual rate springs and the G34.4 I shot a while back was almost magically soft, but I don't know if that's just Gaston's magic or real engineering know how.
