jazz is one of the more difficult genres for me to 'name that tune' challenge (I have a very limited database in my head i guess)
I often listen to it on NPR during the late evenings (no commercials, easy to relax :))
ever since the jazz expert Bob Parlocha passed on in early 'o15 the NPR jazz in the evening has never been the same imo
they had an alternating duo host(s) for maybe a year that I was finally getting used to then they disappeared and some different guy started hosting

I try to go to New Orleans Jazzfest every year. There's a whole lot more than jazz there, and I love it all.

    But yes, jazz is great.

Also a jazz fan. I grew up playing trumpet from 6th grade all the way through college. Started playing jazz freshman year in high school, and really excelled at it. Played at a fairly high level for a while until I switched to engineering in college and moved over to bass guitar (now my primary instrument). I've met Maynard Ferguson a couple times and Arturo Sandoval. Also met Wayne Bergeron (lead trumpet on The Incredibles soundtrack). Got to share the stage with Ben Folds once, even!

If anyone is looking for good, modern, accessible jazz - look up Snarky Puppy (dumb name, incredible musicians). You will thank me later.

Yep, I play upright bass. Been on a Gary Peacock fix lately (he’s Keith Jarrett’s bass player)
