went through an automatic car wash today at lunch. When I got done the little rubber strips that run from the windshield down the roof to the back had come loose. Looked like they're attached at the windshield side but nothing attaching them in the back. I pushed them back in, is there supposed to be something attaching them? They just snap in, probably weren't fully installed. Automatic car washes will beat your vehicles up anyways. Since you don't have the roof rack, the holes underneath the weather strip are covered with a rubber / plastic piece.

I am not finding any way to snap it back in. It's the middle piece. I'll try to get better pictures in a bit. It's like there should be a groove but it's not there.

The only attachment points are near the very front with a clip affixed on the cab, and toward the very rear. I had replaced mine at one point and supplemented with some 3M Vhb but this didn’t prevent one being blown off in a car wash.

My recommendation is for any automated car wash you need to tape them down at the windshield as precaution. Unless you want to deal with some annoyed carwash employee who can’t be bothered to grab your weatherstrip exactly where you saw it hit the ground inside the carwash then bring back some other vehicle model weatherstrip and pass it of as yours (don’t ask me how I know).

I married my tacoma likes this.

Also by “clips” I mean loosely fitting clips that do the job 99% of the time. Any direct airflow under the strip and it’s gone. I suspect people lose them by going to the carwash, having them loosened up or nearly pop off then hitting the highway.

I have a 18' and after I bought it I went in for a car wash and one of the strips flung completely back only connected at the back and lightly scratched my door. This was while I was going through the dryer. I looked and there was no silicon glue to keep it down other than the crappy clip on the trim to the roof.

I ended up getting silicone trim/weatherstripping glue from the autoparts store and put a line down the whole weatherstrip track.

Months later I glued the other side after it flew off at a car wash as well.. Haven't had any issues recently.

I went to the dealership and looked at the 19's weatherstripping and they had silicone glue under, but my 18 didnt..

    Just another factory screw up..

I removed and then replaced mine after I bought my first, shit quality eBay roof rack. I just used some cheap, Home Depot window silicone. A few dabs the length of each strip did the job....

Those rubber pieces were coming off my brand-new 2019 OR as I was taking delivery of the truck at the dealership. They were completely loose. I simply pushed them in. Apparently that’s how they are.

I had a 2017 and noticed they were coming undone.... notified dealer and they ordered some new ones for me as it was a warranty item. If i remember it looked like they are held in place mostly by an adhesive. They notified me the new ones were in but by that time i was getting a 2019 so i never picked them up. Same dealership. The sales guy(second tacoma with him) also told me to take the tacoma bed liner out and put it in the 2019 which didn't come with it like the 2017 did. More thread creep...up until the 2019 deal was signed, i never saw them look over or test drive my 2017 trade-in which i thought was a bit weird. Anyway it appears that the roof strips in question are a recurring issue...it happened to me and i keep the tacoma garaged and do not use car washers.

Anyone know where to buy these strips? My 2017 lost both of them in the carwash lol.

Before buying new ones, I’d try going back to the car wash first and see if they’re still sitting on the ground or in their dumpster.......

They have 3m tape around the middle. Snaps in the front and the clips go into the rear.
