    Hi all,

Sorry if this is redundant...but I have a 2013 DCSB Sport 4x4 at 110,000 miles. I'm wanting an upgrade and I'm going on a long road trip with heavy weight in a few weeks.

I've been deadset based on my research, needs, etc. for Bilstein 6112/5160 paired with the Dakar HD pack. However, the 5160's are on a national backorder and I wouldn't be able to get them in time.

I've thought about switching the whole thing up...going all OME, Fox, Icon, etc. but I think the 6112/5160 is truly the perfect match of cost, function, and looks for what I want. So, what I'm thinking of is getting everything, except putting standard 5100's in place of the 5160's for about two months, then swapping them and selling them used.

Do you all think this would be okay temporarily? The 5100's are stated in some places to be good for just 1" of lift, in others 2"...These Dakar's are probably gonna get me around 3 - 3.5" when I just have my camper shell and standard gear box in the back (combined wt. of probably 300 lbs)

Or can I leave the OEM (not OME) shocks on the rear with the Dakar's for a few thousand miles and swap out when they're in stock?

You could always buy some spacers and run then till you can get shocks

I think you run the risk of failure using the OEM shocks on an HD Dakar pack.

I'd go with the 5100's to hold you over. FYI a lot of people run the Billy B110's on the rear with the Dakar pack to get extra droop if you're into that. Extended brake lines are needed though.

Yeah - I saw that. It looks like people are extending the brake lines, doing the U-bolt flip, and adding an extended bump stop. I think that's a bit more than what I wanted to get into for my uses. I'm not typically in situations that require insane flex.

I think in that case going with 5100's would be a safe bet. You may end up liking them enough to keep them.

When I originally lifted, I did 6112's up front but kept the stock OEM Yellow billies and stock leaf springs for about 2-3 months. The dampening difference was pretty apparent. The front would absorb bumps like butter and the rear would sharply bounce. It definitely wasn't ideal.

The rear shocks do not give you lift. The Dakars are what will lift the rear of the truck. So you can just get the Dakars installed with current rear shocks just don’t go rock crawling. Get the 5160’s installed when available.

Yeah I was thinking that, too. I will be doing some off-roading (on "high clearance only" roads - for what that's worth lol) on this trip, however.

The 5160s are only rated for 1.5" of lift as well, I you off-road and try to flex with them you will destroy them. I say go with the 5125s(aka b110) that can actually support the lift. They are cheaper on eBay than anywhere else I've seen. You don't need brake lines as long as you don't flex.

What I would also suggest is running something like sumo springs for your trip with heavy weight

Thanks for the advice, I started looking at 5125's this morning too. I've also been thinking about sumo springs or some type of aftermarket bump stop. When I do carry this level of weight, I don't go on insane roads and I drive slow and controlled over obstacles.

@whatstcp I ended up going with those 5125's. I'm having a local shop do all the work with the 6112's in the front and installing the Dakar's and the 5125's in the rear and doing any driveline work as needed.

When the 5160's get in...I'll swap those myself since I'm comfortable doing that haha.

You can sell them here on TW for $100 in minutes. Probably more since they'd be low mileage. You're basically renting them. Who knows, you might end up liking them enough to stick with them

ndub86, I also had decided after research to go the the 6112/5160/Dakar for my suspension... 2014 4x4DC OR with 100k miles..
How did it go with the B110 rear shocks as a substitute? Md or HD Dakar’s? What setting on front coils.. I have an arb bumper and Warn winch and May upgrade coils... I occasionally carry heavy (1000k loads of feed.. but I’m worried about excessive rake on the HD Dakar’s. You got any pics or lift measurements??

If there is a concern of bottoming out the rear, consider Timbren or Sumo Springs bumpstops. There is always airbags.
