but the radar says 78. I did swap from 17” to 18”. What’s the fix. I’m dumping the BF Goodrich radial t/a I have now and going to a 33” set.

$150 is the cheapest you will find. No other alternative to recalibrate. It’s a 40k truck. A few hundred bucks to get it back to factory reading is not that bad IMO.

Just do a GPS measurement, and do the math in your head. When I had my 265/70/17 KO2's I was a 1 -2 MPH off at 70.
Now back to 265/65/17's and right back on.

You may, or may not keep the same tire size all the time, so it's not worth the bother or expense.

I concur. I will be changing tire sizes. I can keep track of a couple mph. Usually if the speed limit is 65. I cruse at 74 less than 10 miles over posted speed to keep flashy lights out from behind me.

That is the exact tire size I have on my truck now after I switched away from the factory 16's that came on my SR5 (Firestones) The originals were off a little of on the speed according to my garmin. the new wheels (4runner off road) with the 17's with the 265/65/17s are spot on. I think Toyota just ballparks the setting on the speedos as they have like 4 diff tire sizes all on the OEM set ups. All of the different OEM combos are nearly the same diameter size as you will find if you do a diameter check for each size.
Toyota is too lazy to set up the speedos to the exact setting for each and every model. So they figure if they are close -that's OK

Does the hypertech stay connected all the time? Or do you just hook it up, calibrate speedo, disconnect?

If you only need to use it to calibrate it once, we should all pitch in on one and pass it around LOL

Tell that to the cop that pulls you over -- His/her response may or may not go in your favor -their radar/laser gun usually wins this "discussion".

I don’t know Hypertech, but AEV makes ProCal, an OBD programmer for Jeep Wranglers that allows you to calibrate the speedo and transmission shift points for larger tires, for regearing, etc.: it is VIN specific. You cannot use it on another Wrangler until the first one has been reset back to factory specs.
