Speedo calibration on 3rd Gen Tacoma

Has anyone had there Tacoma computer/speedometer recalibrated since lifting and putting on larger tires? If so, how much does it run? Looking for a place in Phoenix if you know of any. Also, how will the larger tires affect the odometer reading without the calibration? Will it reflect less mileage? Thanks

 

nope its +5@60mph...thats with 285's

I can’t remember what the dealership quoted me to recalibrate but I know it was over $200.

 

Buy the Hypertech Speedo Recalibaration kit. Easy install. Took maybe 5 min. Think it cost me $225 on Amazon. Hardest part was just setting it up for the tire size using their web site. I went up to 285 so it was off by enough that i felt like correcting it.

I don't think it can be done by anything other than the Hypertech solution. Is that what they proposed?

IE there is nothing you can recalibrate using TechStream, no speedo gears to change, etc.

Someone will jump in and correct me if I'm off base here.

 

Hypertech is your only option.

 

That was a couple years ago when I got the quote and they could’ve mentioned Hypertech but I was too busy choking from the quote to remember. For me the price just wasn’t worth it.

leave the gear setting alone, do NOT change anything.

for tire size you will get a more accurate reading if you put in the actual tire size of stock and the new ones.

 

I'm putting in 4.88 gears. I don't have to tell it that? And do I put in the tires in inches or the whole tire size?

 

Does it calibrate the MPG also? And the one on the radio?

 

Leave the gear setting alone, doesn’t matter if you are switching..

Use inches for better results. Look up the factory tire size and whatever your new size is.

 

Yes - speed, odo, trip, mpg will all be correct.

 

Does anyone know if this will work ona 2019 DCLB? I checked the site and can work with 2018 and assume it will work but still +$200!
Then I just need to find a way to get to CA (restricted from sale-wouldn’t want to have a correct speedometer now would we).

 

2019’s are different and not sure if anyone makes one for them yet.

Sent an email to hypertech asking for updates regarding a unit for the 2019. This is the response I received.

At the current time we do not yet have a tire corrector product completed for your vehicle application.
We do not have an estimated time frame for potential completion
I will add your info into our product request data base so you will be notified if and when we do have testing completed.

 

sdhq will ship it to you, that's who I got mine from for my 2018. Not sure about the differences between a 2018 and 2019 tho.
