I have a Concept Z series bait caster and I really like it. Depends on what you fish for, if you crank then I would look into the Ike series Abu Garcia rods. I have a 7'2 m/h fast "delay" rod and it is amazing. Going to save up for the Ike reel as well. Killer looking combo

    Still working on it
Companies that make good baitcasters are:
Shimano - I like their curado line
Abu Garcia - I like their revo line
Daiwa - I like their Luna and (zillion and sol lines -both discontinued )
Lews - never had one but I know peeps love these
*Generally baitcasters come in different sizes, the smaller the number the smaller the reel. The smaller the reel, the smaller the spool. The smaller the spool the smaller the bait you can throw generally (some ceramic bearings will help too!) but they still have their limitations.
Size 50- smallest baitcasters: daiwa and shimano makes some
    Size 100- med small
Size 200 - most common size and general purpose
—— from here you get into the big boys-
Size 300 - daiwa, shimano, okuma, abu
Size 400 - same as above
    Size 500 - shimano (tranx 500)
Apart from the Luna which is a round baitcaster- all are low profile baitcasters..
Lol.. not sure why I wrote this.. don’t think this was the topic......

I have always used a spinning reel but got the urge to give bait casters a shot for the hell of it . I talked to a very avid fisherman and hunter . I normally just fresh water and he fish's both salt and fresh. He didn't even give it a second thought and said hands down a Quantum Accurist S3 PT. $99.00.quantum-accurist-baitcast-reel I don't know enough about them to question them and he had just bought 3 of them. Hes catching Fluke with no problem and Large mouth bass in the fresh water. We use 15lb Power Pro braid line 150yds $17.00. For a rod I bought B01CWL4GY0 . So far I have been very happy with it

If you want to have some fun with crappie, try a fly rod with a small spinning reel. You'll swear you've hooked a monster.
