What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I have the 3/16 Budbilt steel IFS skid, weighs maybe 50lbs give or take. I sometimes leave it off inbetween trail runs...never noticed a difference in mpgs.

 

Installed some Rago Fab bed channel stiffeners this evening. Was a touch uneasy at first in drilling holes in places (especially behind the rear tail lights) though all the holes worked out fine. Only had to use the grinder once to make a washer fit in flush. They are a bit pricey, though they certainly tightened up my rear (that's what she said??). If you know someone who fabs you could probably save some $. If not, these work great on the 1st gens. Hadn't seen much when I searched to see if peeps were installing these. Seem worth it IMHO.

 

Nice, few of us were just talking about these and how we hadn't seen anyone running them. Cool to see in person.

These are press bent are they not? Does 3/16" material seem like enough?

 

So the rail that holds the fiberglass of my cap to the bed kinda fell off. will I be ok just jb welding the fiberglass edge back onto the aluminum rail or is there a special adhesive I should use.

 

3/16" on edge like that seems pretty tough. Seems like you'll still get more flex out of the bed panels, than out of the bracket.

 

I feel a lot of us forget our frames our made of metal thinner than 1/8". I know I did till I dug into mine.

 

I've been told by more than one source that the factory skid plates improve aerodynamics and provide better mileage.

 

Samsquatch are for my ditch lights, and the cock n ball are for my rock lights.

 

I couldn't' tell you 100% that answer - they seem burly. They feel well designed and seem to be pretty dang solid.

I would agree. I was actually thinking of your bed rails cracking when I put these in - hoping to avoid such, and I don't plan to have a above bed rack like some of y'all. Wondered if you'd considered these - I'm sure you had done your homework though.

 

I've considered, but it'd be hard to slide stuff in and out of the bed with the braces in place. Who knows though - could be in my future if my other fixes don't hold up.

Edit: I also don't love the cost for a little brace, so I'd likely make up my own, hahhaha.

Was a project I'd procrastinated for a while - not because I don't like electrical/wiring - I'm actually more comfortable with that than all the mechanical stuff...but because I knew it would be a giant pain in the ass.

BEAUTIFUL! One of my car clubs has a lot of members from Canada, Alaska, and way up north. They take having a NorthStar battery very seriously. Like emergency vehicle serious. For them, batteries can become a "life or death" situation. Unfortunately, I would need to go out of state to get one.
