LED turn signals Hyperflash Relay

Not sure if anyone has had an issue with turn signals hyperflashing from putting in LED bulbs but if you do there is a good way to fix the problem without doing the super hot resistors. I ordered a flasher relay from Amazon to replace the stock one. The new one is meant for LED bulbs and prevents them from hyperflashing.

If you order one of these, make sure you get the right one for your truck. I'm sure there are other retailers you can order them from as well.

When you turn your turn signals on, the bulbs draw power. The relay can detect if any bulbs are blown if there is not enough power being drawn from the bulb. When the relay detects that no power or low power is being drawn from the one of the bulbs, it hyperflashes to let you know that you have a blown turn signal. LED bulbs use significantly less power than regular bulbs so the computer will always think they are blown if you use them.

I didn't take any before and after pics as I did this a while ago but figured I'd do a write up if anyone wanted to do the same thing. The turn signal relay is located behind the interior fuse panel, under the steering column. To access it you will have to remove the step guard, kick panel, and the panel under the steering wheel. You will know which relay is the one for the turn signals because if you turn on the truck and turn the signals on you will hear, and feel if you touch it, the ticking from the relay. You will have to remove any plugs from your fuse panel, take out all the screws from the fuse panel, and be prepared for a fight. The OEM flasher relay is a pain to pull off. I struggled with it quite a bit before I managed to get it off. Once you get the new one on, plug everything back in, and test it to make sure it works, before you remount the fuse panel. As long as everything is working properly, put it all back together and enjoy your new LED turn signals!

 

I ran into the same problem and now waiting for the led flasher relay to arrive. The hyperflashing gets people's attention though and maybe not that bad, but I am going to put in the new flasher when I get it. For the time being it is okay, all my exterior lights are now led.

 

And for those of you who have a bit more than spare change you can get the Diode Dynamics Smart Tap Relay for $60. Same thing but has the tap to signal feature as well as my favorite feature, strobe hazard lights and wig wag strobe hazard lights. Have them on both my Tacoma and wifes Prius. For me it's for when leading an off-road trip at night or on dusty trails visibility. For my wife it's in case she's on the shoulder of a road it helps her be more visible

^ Yep, the Smarttap flasher is awesome. I have been beside the freeway with the wig wag flashers on and people definately slow down more.

I also really like the nightime driveway illumination when you lock the doors with the key fob.

Also, nobody has mentioned, neither of these flashers will work if you have DRL.
