Hi, my 2014 double cab has a belp chirp noise upon cold start up. I was going to replace the belt but came across something that said it is recommended that you change all of the pulleys as well as the belt. Has anyone had to do this? im only at 40000 miles.

    thanks

No reason to change the pulleys unless they are a problem. Especially at that mileage.

However, it is prudent to check them out when the belt is off.

yea, i guess pulling the belt and checking the pulleys would be the best thing to do.

Why spend a few hundred on pulleys when a simple belt change will do.

    Belt first.

Let us know how it goes! GL.

I believe it was on rock auto website where there was a note stating that the manufacturer recommends replacing all the pulleys with the belt. My noise is a chirping sound at cold startup that lasts for about 5 minutes then goes away. We will see what I find when I remove the belt.

Figure out where that chirping is coming from. My guess is the tensioner pulley is on the way out but it could be the water pump or a bearing in one of the other pulleys.

Mine made some chirping noise after washing the engine bay around 60k miles. I think it came from the tensioner pulley, but i replaced all easily accessible pulleys while i was in there. There are many useful threads on how to do this and which parts to order. Take your time ordering the correct equivalent pulley's (which was what i did) if you don't use the stealership ones. I'm at 160k miles now and no chirping noises yet, although I have a set of pulleys and new belt to install when I have a free weekend to stay ahead of it. No issues with water pump and haven't had to replace that yet (knock on wood).

Update. So I took the belt off and checked all the pulleys and found none of them to be bad. I also checked the belt for cracks or any other obvious signs of wear. Belt looks good. Before reinstalling the belt I did wipe it down with some contact cleaner. Put the belt back on and the chirping at cold startup is gone. Thanks for all of the advice. Only ended up costing me about 20 minutes of my time.

I’m gonna have to do mine next week. It’s doing the same thing but I’m gonna replace the water pump/fan clutch and belts and pulleys. After 200k I think it’s about time lol

Take skid plate off and do it from the bottom. You dont necessarily have to fish the belt around the fan if your not replacing it.
