Wanted to give insight on tire experience at Costco Waipio.

    TLDR Version:

Vehicle: 2013 DCSB 4X4 TRD Offroad.
Tires Purchased: DUELER A/T REVO 3 P265/75R16 LRE OWL ALL TERRAIN TIRE
    Total Cost: $727.71 - OTD
    Vehicle Mods: None. Bone stock.
Time Taken: Ordered Tuesday 6/25/2019, Installed by Friday 6/28/2019.
Driving Style: Tacoma is daily driver. 95% on-road; 5% off-road.

Overall Experience: Positive. If tires are satisfactory over time will probably choose Costco again.

    Pics: Scroll to bottom.

    Long Version:

First set of tires on vehicle were the stock Rugged Trails. Got stuck in the mud at Peacock flats and went with DuraTrac 265/75/16 load range E. The DuraTrac were good tires however over time they became LOUD. With the closure of Tracks and Makua my off-road use has diminished vastly. Also shipped vehicle once to BI for vacation. Probably won't do again as work schedule changed and it would be difficult to be without for a few days on both ends during shipment.

Currently I have a mix of 95% on-road driving with 5% off-road driving (peacock flats - camping with nice weather only a few times a year, occasionally Kaena Pt. when the weather is great with no wind and sunny).

Since I mostly drive on-road I wanted to go with a lighter tire. Costco had a promotion so I decided to try out the Revo 3's.

Costco Experience: Ordered on Tuesday online. The online website says 10-20 days shipping to Hawaii however I checked the tracking link and apparently the tires were located in Honolulu and delivered on Thursday.

When ordering online note that the website will only allow you to select installation 10-20 days from order date. If your tires are located on-island based on tracking select an earlier order date to view earlier openings.

    Experience:

Since the 265/75/16 is not authorized by Costco for installation on the Tacomas the salesperson stated that if any rubbing were to occur with the new tires they would put back on the old ones. Salesperson also stated that typically the tires rub the Upper Control Arm on stock vehicles. Expect a walk-through of your vehicle and if the tires being replaced are smaller / stock may have additional issues or questions. Apparently rubbing wasn't an issue with my vehicle.

Costco is pretty busy. Expect long wait times in the tire center. I did get the tires installed under their quoted time of 2-hours even with long wait time in the tire center. Also got the weekly shopping done while waiting which was nice.

Initial driving experience was great. With the DuraTrac tires the noise can be deafening and ride harsh. With these tires there was a dramatic drop in road noise.

Since I'm a fair weather off-roader I don't expect to need aggressive tread which is why I went with these. My backend did kick out a bit on some mud with the worn down DuraTracs during my last Peacock Flats visit. Also don't want to go with a lift as parking garages may become nightmarish.

YMMV if what Costco sells will work for you.

First person in line at Kapolei, took 2 hours for installation. My regular shop took 1/2 hour

    Thank you for your response.

I guess it’s a give and take in a sense.

For me I was out under the quoted time but if I drove that far to wait around that long I can totally understand the frustration.

At least the hotdogs are cheap :)

I ordered BFG KO2s for a stock toyo. Went with a 265X70X17 (stock is 265X65X17) so basically a size up. The guy at the counter said they can't install as it was over a 3% threshold difference from stock and they wouldn't warranty it. This was at the Waipio costco. Maybe I'll go Kapolei next time.
