Thank you. That shows the position of the camera is perfect. If it has more angle it would show both corners. This is what I'm looking for. I tried this position with my esky but its angle is still not good enough. Looking for true 180 degree horizontal camera.

I used this camera and it has a pretty wide angle. Definitely not 180 though. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_074RV910IR/Optix-RVC910IR.html?tp=83

I read that the alpine camera is a very wide angle, but it costs more than most. Don't fall for the cheap cameras on Amazon and ebay, they really are junk.

It’s a knockoff of the pop n lock bezel. The casting looks super cheap. Totally pointless, can just buy the camera for $30 and drill a hole in the handle. Or you can use the plate mounted camera which I have.

@Brandons2004tacoma - I literally just finished installing an aftermarket camera onto my tailgate handle. My truck came with a keyed tailgate - no idea the brand. I have any 2001 XtraCab. Photos below. Drilled through the plastic only - OPTIONAL drilling into the tailgate - although I did use a file to widen a natural gap from the steel printing of the gate handle - I'll call it out in the pics. Super easy process. Also, I soldered Female/Male 18-22AWG Blade adapters onto my reverse light's + / - wires, incase I need to change out my light or camera... Once I determined the connections were going to be housed behind the driver tail-light, I decided to come in through the back of the cab (at the driver access box were there jack is kept). *In hind-sight, I might have considered coming in through the standard under-cab waterproof mount (directly under the driver seat, under the cab). The length from the tail-light to the back of the cab, following the OEM wire harness, is 75" - I made my wire harness using the normal plastic wire jacket, followed the OEM brake-light route, and zip-tied it to the same wire track. Once inside the cab, I took off the door-trim panel, by the driver-seat floor, took off the left-forward kick-panel, and took off the bottom panel under the steering wheel. I routed the camera cable up the ignition line, then behind the clock and zipped the cable to the dashboard support bar (steel bar, up and behind your stereo) leaving about 18" to service/connect the Stereo.

I have a Sony AVX-1000 stereo deck. The distance lines you see in the picture are the stereo's distance lines. The camera has distance lines you can keep (or cut a loop wire to disable). I disabled the camera's lines because the Sony's lines are adjustable.

I used this camera: NATIKA Backup/Front View Camera,IP69K Waterproof Great Night Vision HD and Super Wide Angle Metal OEM Style Reverse Rear View Backup Camera for Cars Pickup Trucks SUVs RVs Vans (Black)

Here’s the one I use. Works good and easy to wire with some time. I have it attached to my Allpro bumper.

Close but no cigar yet. Pass side bumper corner is 100% visible but not the driver side. This is what I would like to see.

@RysiuM - totally 100% correct. I did that on purpose; perfectly setup for my needs and style ...

I either use my driver mirror or look / hang out the driver window for driving / 4-wheeling. Obviously can’t hang out my pass. window and my blind-spot when using my pass. mirror is solved with my camera setup. If my camera were centered it would have shown both ends of the bumper (tested before mounting), but with the lock, my handle opening is already small and mounting the camera would have taken up the rest of the space. To each their own for sure!

I wonder if anyone has tried mounting a 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen OEM handle with camera onto a 1st Gen? I know it would require some tailgate sheet metal alteration, but I think the mechanism is similar. I saw one for sale on eBay recently and it got me thinking...

    Hello,
I have a 2004 Tacoma, Prerunner, off-road, sr5, and wanted to know how you removed just the rearview mirror and left the map lights? I am looking at added a rearview camera in with a new mirror, but when I look at how the current rearview mirror is attached, I am confused about how to take it off alone.

    Thanks,
    Lewis

From what I can remember the mirror base is under the map light cover. If you remove the cover you can remove the screws holding the mirrors base from the map light.

Any aftermarket mirror you get you will have to glue the mirror to the glass, they will come with the attachment as well. I used Gorilla two part epoxy glue. Took it off road and it’s still on there tight. I also have no mirror vibration.

That is just the cheap plastic piece from a popnlock with a $20 stud mount camera on it. It is extremely overpriced for what it is.

My lock had rusted out, so I put the camera in place of it. Clean install, but the view is a little too high. Gonna try to heat up the plastic and gently aim a bit lower. One day. BC9C1DD9-D307-4F99-B9EF-7AF36004F7DF.jpg

I'm considering getting a 2003 Tacoma, and my wife would really like a backup camera. What display system or head unit, does this, or one like it, work well with?
