I purchased a snugtop rebel, and i love it. Even the stock LED it comes with provides great lighting, BUT i hate that it blocks the Tacoma’s bed light that i can switch on from the cab.

Has anybody modified/ done a cutout with some plexiglass to restore us of the truck’s actual bed flood light? I really want to do this, but i also dont want to ruin my snugtop with a crappy irreversible hole, something that leaks, or something that just doesnt work.

    Thoughts, ideas, completed projects?

I think you'd have better luck tying the snugtop light into the tacoma switch.

Its not the switch i care about really, its just that the trucks stock bed light is dope, and i want to be able to use it. Also i dont want to pay or do any electrical mods, especially if i can cut a hole in a piece of fiberglass, seal some 6x3” piece of plexiglass on there, and be able to use the normal bed light. The light installed in the snugtop is good, just trying to increase usability if anybody has found a way to do an easy cut out

You do you bro, but I would not be cutting a hole in my 1500 to 2000 dollar snugtop.

The cargo lights were a nice idea, problem is they are not very bright.

Even a bigger window won't make it nearly as good. It's like all those comments saying "you should have bought a V6". Everything around the plexi will cast shadows that aren't there with no topper. Cake or pie, can't have both. Adding the snugtop invaded the wiring, what's the big deal about a switch?

Edit- not wishing to be rude, it's just that I think the plexi simply can't be made into a good idea whereas the switch can give you exactly the function you want without cannibalizing your shell.

Its not a big deal. Its just that i dont care about the light thats already in there being switched from the cab, i was just looking for an easy mod to obtain use of a light that is already there. I dont know why truck tops dont have an additional peep hole type thing where the bed lights are installed on the top of the cab. Shadows or not, its light. A light that is already there. Why take its usability away? They could easy have a cutout with a non-removable glass in it. If they can put windows..they can put peep holes..the question is: can i?

Sure, by the time you frame the glass there's no glass left. I guess you can cut a hole and glue in something frameless or even remove the existing front glass and install a much larger frameless one. Have at it.

Welcome to the forum. Not being a wise ass, but I'd think that if you had the experience working with fiber glass to do a decent job of it, you wouldn't be asking here.

If you really want to do this, I recommend having a professional do it. Otherwise I don't think you'll be happy with the results.
