AC squeals when ac is on. ac blinking light

Two days ago i was sitting in my truck getting cool in 95 degree weather and all of the sudden i hear a squealing sound and smell burning rubber through the ac. the ac light started blinking then turned off. I've read threads that it could be the ac clutch or a bearing thats having issues. Can anyone confirm? I will be posting a video of the sound to the thread later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!

 

It is definitely the clutch. It’s a SUPER easy job. I just did it the other day.

Remove the 8mm bolt and slide the clutch off (be careful of the 3 small washers) then re assemble

Probably the clutch assembly, but It could also be a seized compressor.

Also, i noticed the clutch assembly was pretty deep and hard to reach within the engine bay. Do you know what components you removed to get more space to work on the compressor? Thanks.

 

Crank the wheel all the way to the left and you will see black triangle flap that is held in place by a few clips in the wheel well. Your compressor is behind the forward one. I’m on the fat side and was able to remove and install the compressor by squeezing my body in between. Removing the tire would have been to easy.

Starting after 4:30 he shows how he gets to the compressor through the wheel well area. Should just need to remove the belt and then the clutch. Never removed a compressor clutch but it should just be a bolt and then the clutch sits on a splined shaft... might need some sort of impact to easily loosen it.

 

I removed mine with the compressor on my work bench, but it’s super easy even on the truck
