Simple/effective touch-up for sliders

There isn't anything special about this post, but I thought it would be worth sharing with our community. I just returned from taking the family to the cabins in Gatlinburg (TN) and Ponca (AR). After two weeks of R&R and some trail running, the sliders have some nicks. Some of us couldn't care less about nicks - we view it as a rite of passage. For others, it may establish our rig as the real deal rather than a mall crawler. For those of us with sliders, whether weld-on or bolt-on, it can be a pain to have to repaint our sliders, in part, because it takes time to remove the sliders or tape everything off in order to avoid overspray. The process can be tedious. For those who might be looking for a quick and simple method to touch up those nicks, this is for you.

First, get a decent sponge (I use a tire applicator). I use Duplicolor Bed Armor because it doesn't stick to the sponge.



I've tried other brands and after a few minutes of use, it causes the sponge to break apart and stick to the slider. The Dup Bed Armor avoids this problem. After you wash your rig and dry your sliders, simply apply the armor to the sponge and begin dabbing the sliders.



It takes me approximately 25-30 minutes to do both sliders. The sliders will dry within a few hours. This eliminates the mess and hassle, and covers nicks and scraps. This isn't a solution to a set of sliders with rust, but it may help prolong things before a full paint job is needed.

 

I just use a big piece of cardboard and a rattle can but I might give this a try! Got any close ups of how it looks dry?
