    Hey guys

    I have a 17 DCLB with a Leer 100 XL.

    249545025.jpg

When I got the cap last year I ordered it with the Thule tracks.

I need a roof rack now and the only option I'm aware of that looks decent (in terms of matching the cab rack with the top rack) is the Prinsu.

However since I'll only by using the rack a few times a year, it's seems quite costly and also overkill. Am also somewhat concerned about noise and fuel mileage.

What do you guys think? Any other options you would advise?

    Thanks

OEM. I don’t think aftermarket is worth the cost (for me). OEM folds out of the way when you don’t need it.

What's your intended purpose for the roof rack?
Do you need one of the platform racks (like Prinsu) or just crossbars?

What kind of weight/use are you needing to use the rack for?

I had the OEM, don't like how the crossbars are curved out bowed. So I switched it all out to a Yakima Jetstream System and love it. And if I need to take my bike I put it off on the side with my Outboard Bike Mount.

    - A kayak or canoe, and maybe a second kayak in the future

    - A Thule box at times too

A bar type Rack (Yakima, Thule, Rhino) is probably your best choice.

OME with Thule. Best of both worlds.

20190602_114726.jpg I would either put them on your cab, or the topper (whichever is longer), but don't span both. Trucks twist in the middle.

    ^^This^^

I would definitely put your canoe on a rack on your truck cap as the bar spread is much greater. A kayak would be fine on a roof rack. I just sold my Rhino Vortex roof rack becuase my canoe was shifting around while off-road, even with 2 hull straps and a bow and stern strap. On road it was just fine.....but all the goof fishing spots are well off the beaten path. My 10' kayak was fine up on my roof both on and off-road as I used those foam pads on my rack.

Ive got a victory rack. I love it so far and is priced very well for what you get. They dont have a top rack at this moment but i did confirm with them that they will be making one in the near future.

Resized_20190509_135814.jpg I made some simple gunwale brackets to prevent canoes from shifting around. The thule/Yakima options are all pretty big and clunky. And cost bucks.

Funny because a friend of mine lost his canopy on the highway when the wind caught the two kayaks up there and tore the canopy mounts right out of the bedrails.
I carry our 16 ft on the Prinsu; It needed some mounts and such for the rocker to clear but it is solid up there and never moves.

Nice setup and good lookin' rig!

You've got a nice long span between your mounting points/straps on that Prinsu. My bars were less than 3' apart. I sold my cap (Leer 180 mid rise) last year and never had any issues with my canoe on or off-road. I sold it as I lost my bird dogs. I then went with the Rhino Vortex. Now I've got a Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack that's perfect for my needs.

Looks great. I've never seen a prinsu in person, but they get a lot of love on here.
