So I changed my oil on my own for the first time (on the Tacoma, I’ve been changing my own oil for 25 years and never had a problem like this).

New oil filter & o-ring but the thing is dripping oil, more than one drop per second. Pulled it off, looked for cracks, made damn sure all was clean, put it back, torqued correctly, same result.

What in the world is going on? In 25 years and multiple vehicles, I have never experienced this.

    What hasn't been modified?
    Pictures?
Install both o-rings in the correct location?

Over torque and cracked the plastic houseing?

It’s leaking in the same spot. Back most side of the truck. I could have cracked it but I looked very closely! I guess I’ll look again.

No, that is the correct filter.

The only time we see oil leaks with A1's is if the oring is on the wrong landing, or the plastic housing is cracked.

The filter box even has a picture of the landings.

I know you have been changing your own oil for so long. I hate to be “Captain Obvious”. Did you make sure the old O rings were removed?

~25 years ago my father told me of a time when he blew a customers engine (he was working at a filling station) because he left the old o-ring on. This goes through my head every time I change oil.

Fair enough. Just thought I would throw it out there. Good luck with your quest.

If I had a 3rd gen I'd get the adapter so I could use oem toyota spin on filters or napa gold filters. So much easier to use it seems

It’s cracked. And on the “unscrew” side. It was extremely tight and hard to remove. Toyota changed it the last time. I’m sure I don’t have any recourse but I’m going to call and bitch regardless.

There's nothing hard about changing the oil on this truck.

So I am seeing a few different ones on Amazon, some with 4 “ears” (3 & 1) like my original one.

Oil Filter Cap Assembly 15620-31060 for Toyota Prius, Prius V, Corolla, Matrix, Scion, Lexus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074W5CSDN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Vm8nDbTNBA8HP

    And some with only two...

Genuine Toyota 15620-31060 Oil Filter Cap Assembly https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BHP68A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_2q8nDbCQRKFFY

All with the same part number, 15620-31060.

    Why are they different?
