I didn't set out saying I must own this truck 20 years. Had their not been an upcoming headache however, it could have possibly made it that far.

I was able to get 19k for it. So the new truck didn't make me plop $30K+ down. I was also curious about all of the creature comforts in a new vehicle (which I do like by the way). I'd make the same decision again. Why it bothers you, I'm not sure.

So replacing a head gasket is part of on going maintenance on occasion, Toyota fixed the gasket issue with new and improved parts. Sucks to know its an issue with 05-06 Tacos, I had A 07 without a problem, 14 no issues. So I blow a head gasket down the road I just fix the damn thing and roll on...... Not that damn the dealer changed the head gasket and 120k down the road it happened again it must be their fault JHC.....

I'm just sharing my unsolicited opinion, as you do with yours. Your truck wasn't broken, and there's no 100% guarantee that it ever would've been broken due to head gaskets. It doesn't bother me that you made a choice based on speculation and assumption. Your money, your life, your decisions.

    Open the drivers side door.
Look for the sticker that has the vin # and tire pressure etc.
There should be a date on the sticker.
It should be located around the door latch.

CStafford, I appreciate your response. And I fully agree with you. I didn't mean to imply that I would change out the engine pro-actively. Frankly, if the head gasket goes -- if it goes -- I'll just pay to have it fixed properly. The real challenge will be trying to find someone to do the repair. I am in NY and good mechanics are hard to find.

EDIT: Extra thank you for the link to that poll. Very informative.
