What did you use to drill out the plug?

I used a small drill bit to make a pilot hole then upped the drill bit sizes till I got the size i needed. After that I had to use a dremel with a sanding bit and slowly sanded some of the inside because the bolt doesn't line up to the angle of the hole i drilled. It took me like 15 or 20 minutes. I had to keep playing with it. I probably took it in and out 10 times. Just take your time.

We’re you hand holding the piece or were you able to get it in a vise?

I held it in my hand. It’s plastic so it didn’t catch to bad at the end of the bit.

Finally did the OP’s mod. I have an iPhone X max with a Lifeproof case, so I’ve got to keep my X Grip sideways (so it’s easy to put the phone in and take it out again) but it’s all very sturdy.

Has anybody mounted an additional Ram Mount in the top A Pillar bolt spot for another device — say an Ultraguage or similar? Wondering if that’s too much and would overly impede sight out of the windshield.

It looks like you’re running a OBD2 reader on your iPhone? Can I ask what reader you are using? I was just scrolling through Amazon looking at options that’ll work with an iOS operating system. And, having the thingy on my phone would eliminate the need for another mount in front of my forehead, haha.

I retract my part number. The parts dude ordered the bottom plug. So that this part number will get you the bottom plug.

Just did this mod today anyone else bothered by the actual ram twist mount itself? Damn thing rotates freely like a quarter of a turn when your phone is in it and people are suppose to use this thing on motorcycles?Thinking of returning the mount itself does anyone know of any better phone mounts that will attached to the 1 inch ball?

I think something is not set up correctly. Mine do not move at all.

Post of picture of your setup - let's see if we can fix it.

Huh literally everything but the phone when mounted is sturdy as hell. Apparently
When the phone is mounted horizontally or vertically for that matter the phone freely spins a little bit less then 1/4 a turn left or right. From other threads i have read this is an inherent design flaw of this particular mount and that the rubber sleeve bra that comes with the mount lessens this movement? When there is no phone mounted nothing moves or rotates and the mount is rock solid.

I may have gone overboard but I used an open end wrench to help snug the twist nut on the arm, I do allot of off-roading and was concerned that some big bumps or corrugations would make it droop.

I'm curious to see how other peoples ram mount x grip function maybe i just got a defective one. Like was mentioned in the previous reply everything is rock solid except when i actually put my phone in the mount. Like literally a gust of wind could make the phone spin a 1/4 turn.
