If you don't do any off road driving, you're probably right. If you don't need it and don't have the cash, don't do it.

But if you're already replacing shocks & leafs, and if you do have the money and the desire to lift it a little bit, I think you'll be stoked on the results.

Its not a money thing, its more so I realized I have a cracked leaf and I need shocks, just found the cracked leaf on Saturday. Need to get the trucks state inspection done by the end of the month. I use my truck as a weekend vehicle and occasionally for work.

I never owned the dakars to be honest but the numerous people I've talked to and nearly all dakar lifts I've seen on this forum go way too high in the rear (unless theyre running steel bumpers and tents n what not).
For mine, I kept the stock leaf pack and just added a small leaf in there. it was only $35 for a pair but I got 2" out of it.

I would go with the general HDs next time or if i ever decide to replace

Yeah, I've seen some of that too. Seems like most of that settles out relatively quickly, and if you do actually put any significant weight in the back, they sag like hell.

another reason to stay away from the dakars lol

At least the General HDs won't provide too much lift but are a stiffer spring rate (thicker) than stock leafs

4x bisltein 2881 and general hd's I'd bet my paycheck would be a solid setup!

I have Moog 81104 coil springs with 4600's, no lift. I'm satisfied.

    Hello all!

    2003 Regular Cab 4x4 88k miles.

Much like the OP, I would like to replace my shocks with Bilstein 4600s.

Would adding .5inch trim packers (to the stock coils in order level to out the overall appearance) be wise in terms of overall durability?

Or should I just skip the trim packers?

    Everything but the driveshaft. B03A - 410
Are you 4x4? If not OME 2880s do provide lift for the lighter front suspension with a Prerunner.

Also note there is a 1/4 inch spacer for the driver side to compensate for the Taco Tilt.

    Before 2880s and 5100s.

After 2880s (lowest setting) and 5100s.

Marie at Headstrong Off Road certainly can. And offer good value on pricing as well.

    You're welcome.

    Update:

Decided to go with 4600s, got a sweet deal on them. I also order General Spring HDs. All new hardware and LBJs too. They'll bump the rear up about 1.5", which is better than how they sag now... In the end I decided against a lift, but still got some upgrades for the suspension.

    Thanks!

I decided on the 4600s also.

As I live in suburban Chicago, we have no elevation and our largest obstacles are curbs. 5100s would be superfluous.

This is going to stay my 'beater' used for commuting to motocross and helping relatives with renovations/moving.

This thread is giving me a lot to think about. I'm looking into refreshing some of the suspension components on my 01prerunner dc 4banger.

I've seen several posts of dakars lifting too much or not settling enough for some people. Seems like they're geared towards compensating for a heavier weight. I'll have to look into HD Generals.

I was set on 5100 initially when I started my research but some people complained about ride quality - subjective so I'll have to risk this or look at other options.

The Taco is my daily. I don't haul or offroad; its relegated to light duty tasks like the ocassional piece of furniture.

Tjsingle26, glad you figured out what you needed.

    Where did you obtain them?
Thanks for this thread, btw, very helpful. Looking to do pretty much the same thing, with the exception that I don't need/want much lift (very little to no off-road use other than the occasional western NY snow drift :D.

Thanks for this... as I was wondering about that. I had heard the fronts can come as a package with the coils? My ride has 165k (2004 4x4 TRD) on it and still has original set up... should I also replace front coils?
