I don't think you have to worry about that coupler being the weak point, if you do the math where the torque is applied. The coupler sees the least amount of torque compare to the rest of the drivetrain. Ive been bound up double locked and double low and the fuse was the front differential tube, which is also a shitty trail repair.

Everything can be built better and stronger. How far do you want to extrapolate that though? Do you want to have a trophy class truck? Then build that.

For me and my needs the simplest, and best, solution was Toyota dual cases. They are plenty strong enough to handle my 3.4l 5vz. It puts out a whopping 189HP and 220 ft/lbs torque at 3600RPMs. I'm never that high in the power band when wheeling. Mostly because I have dual cases. I'm going on 2 years running my case and wheel my rig all the time. I have broken a lot of other parts but never the cases. Can they break? Sure. But so can a Ford 9".

At the end of the day it's a personal choice how each of us build our rigs. My goal for this rig has always been to maintain it as an IFS rig, run 35's, 5.29s, dual locked, dual cased. It goes everywhere I need it to and drives me home. My future plans include a trailer queen buggy. That one will be expensive. It will be built for buggy only trails and there's no way that one gets a Toyota dual case set-up. It will most likely get a Hero. Why? Because 44's and built V8. lol

I want to see this truck. Have any pics? Barring tire size, sounds like mine.

How is your shifter position in the cab? A buddy with his 3rd gen 4r is looking for ideas.

I went with two locations and swapped a 99+ console into my rig. Crawlbox shifter comes up in the stock location and the twin sticks for the stock case come up in the rear cupholder. The shifter work was pretty easy doing it this way. All I had to do was cut the 4wd stick and reweld it with a 45 in it to clear the e-brake.

Why? Without the twins you loose 2wd lo and lo/lo. Splitting the case, grinding down the shift rail and removing the interlock pin isn't hard.

That's the easiest of installing a crawl box. I just don't think he want a twin stick to began with.
