Yes, but it is quality. Some folks tried to test cheaper ones in the MT Update thread and could not get a stable connection. There are more expensive ones out there. The price is on the low end for non-cloned J2534 adapters.

Also, I used it with FORScan ( ) to customize settings in my daughters Mazda 3. So, it is useful for more than the Taco.

Yeah, just a warning, some have tried to go cheap and regretted it.

That includes a tune, right? I was trying to prod my wife into tuning the Forester.

Cobb doesn't have tunes for the Tacoma, however, I have my OV license. I'm just trying to determine if there are alternatives to the hardware OV sells. My good friend has a Cobb, just wondering if it would work with the OV software...

So, not unlike the @OVTune kit.

The Tactrix can be used on Subbies also. I haven't plugged in yet or bothered searching for a hacked version of whatever they use. The wife is too happy as it is.

    Ah! That completes the story.

It probably won't work since the registration software is MS Windows only and must be newer than Win XP. Although, folks have had no problems with MACs using Bootcamp.

OVT has a handheld that will be released soon.

Why are people pushing for an ect less 2.0 Beta?

I totally get it as I would love to try what it would feel like but it's a Beta for a reason and Matt is currently releasing the GL version for a specific reason or restriction he is still working around and once he is ready for a proper ECT, that will also come around.

imo 2.0 OLE Beta without ECT is already superior to previous versions ect, or not but if you feel different you can always go back to 1.05 until a proper ECT version of 2.0 is released.

Unfortunately an accessport will not work with the OVTune software required to flash your truck. You will need a J2534 interface, preferably the OVTune specific Tractrix (Hardware is specific to OVTune specs) and the licensing to activate the software you will run on your Windows based laptop to flash the truck.

Hope this helps some. As someone that came from an AccessPort, I hated to see it go. OVTune does offer a handheld, although it has not shipped yet to my knowledge and availability is scarce at this time.

    Techstream question:

Following some instructions that were found a few hundred pages back in this thread, I've got techstream 12.20.024 installed on my dedicated tune flashing laptop, running windows 10.

Having an issue installing the MVCI driver though. I get a message than an error occured during installation, and that nothing was installed. No details and I'm not sure where the error log is.

Can I proceed without the MVCI driver? Is the tactrix driver enough to make the connection between truck and techstream?

I guess I'm about to find out on my own, but thought I should at least check with the hive mind.

Don’t need it cuz you have the tactrix driver. You just tell it to use that interface once you get it installed

Go to the VIM in TS, and update it to utilize the tactrix instead of the MVCI driver.
