Heck, there's potholes deep enough on the paved roads in Kentuck that can do that.

Ya, not a great design for off-road use (fixed on 3rd gens). I saw one relocated to the left side license plate light cutout. Looked good. Might need a brighter light on the right side to compensate though...or not.

I moved mines to the location of the left license plate light. Never had an issue with a cop either.

Stock bumpers are pretty thin, mines just drilled and mounted to the left flat outside the license plate well and gets the plug above the bottom of the bumper. Those under mount brackets still leave the trailer plug sticking down and exposed to that same hit when the plug is in.

    I do like that one.

When I tore mine off I mangled the factory trailer connector as well. So I bought a Curt aftermarket, cut the mangled Toyota one off and reattached to the Curt. Like others I then moved mine to the left license plate light when I had the factory bumper. I had to do minor dremel work and drill a couple bolt holes to get it to fit.

Nope. I've got the same one as ODannyBoy. It is not connected to the bumper. The bracket is on the trailer hitch and is far enough under that the spare tire protects it. I can attest to the fact that it's far enough back and up out of the way to not get killed. I have certainly tried. I also did the Honda 7-pin connector trick when I destroyed the stock mount and connector. That was a good tip.

Previous owner did mine, think it looks pretty clean and is very functional

I did the same thing to mine. No need to take a picture because it looks exactly the same. I really like this placement because I tow a trailer quite often. I can make the connection in a second without crawling around under the truck.

The socket and socket hangar are out of the way but the plug and cable now hang straight down. It just seems better to me to have it pointed back instead of down. Just a suggestion though.
