    hello all,

I have a second gen Tacoma 4.0L. It did not come with the tow package, so I am slowly installing everything needed in order to tow a travel trailer.

Looking for the factory wire harness that I would need to connect to the 7- pin plug. I know it’s somewhere in the truck. Should be towards the back. If I could find it it would make my job a lot easier. I realize that I can work around it and run wires to make it work. But finding it would save me hours of work.

Has anyone come across it or know the location? Would be very helpful.

    Thank you.

    Sal

If you don't have a factory tow package, it's not prewired for towing. You're going to need to run wires for the trailer brakes and battery charge wire.

For the tail and turn signals, buy 1 of the plug and play wiring convertors that plug into the truck's tail light connector.

Well, there is a wire harness under my driver side dash that is for the brake controller- and it does have power going to it. Put 12v tester on it. When I hit the brakes, my tester light comes on.

So what I’m looking for is the other end of it that should be towards back of truck- x fingers. Pretty sure and hoping for a pre-wiring of some sort.

Maybe your truck originally came with the tow package and somebody took the hitch off. Do you have the engine oil cooler and trans cooler? If you have the trailer wiring, there will be a 7 wire connector on the bottom of the left frame rail near the rear bumper. The 4 wire connector in that location is for the license plate lights.

It didn’t. I’ve been slowly installing all the components of the tow package- Bigger alternator, transmission cooler, receiving hitch, etc.

It’s got to be in there hiding.
